Warning! Spoilers for Flashpoint Beyond #0 by DC Comics
Batman just gave new meaning to "DC" in the actual DC Comics Universe, as Flashpoint Beyond #0 reveals the Dark Knight is using the name "Divine Continuum" to describe what contains the Omniverse and beyond. In the new story, Batman is trying to crack the code of the universe and comes up with the all-encoming term to describe that gives the DC Universe its own sacred timeline.
The DC Universe has never had a catch-all name that connected the "DC" part to the actual universe itself in the comics. Instead, it was a way to reference DC Comics, the publisher of the Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman-starring stories, which ironically enough, stands for Detective Comics... Comics. However, with the Multiverse and Omniverse being explored like never before in series' like Justice League Incarnate, Batman has established a term that describes everything, as he coins the "Divine Continuum" in the issue zero of Flashpoint Beyond.
In Flashpoint Beyond #0 by Geoff Johns, Eduardo Risso, Trish Mulivill, and Rob Leigh from DC Comics, the main story focuses on the return of Thomas Wayne to the somehow returned Flashpoint universe. However, one of the big twists occurs in the comic's second epilogue, revealing Batman's investigations into the changing timeline and the Time Masters, showing what he's been working on. Readers see Batman's notes, where the term "Divine Continuum" with "D" and "C" circled, which is split into two groups, "Space" and "Time," giving new meaning to "DC" in the comic book universe.
"Space" (otherwise known as the Omniverse) splits into the Multiverse (which itself splits into the Metaverse aka Prime Earth) and Dark Multiverse - meanwhile, the Omniverse splits directly into the Sphere of the Gods, which is where Heaven, Hell, Apokolips, and the Dreaming exist. Meanwhile, "Time" (otherwise known as hypertime) splits into two different connective tissues, Limbo and the Vanishing Point - the latter being where the Time Masters, including Rip Hunter, operate. The Divine Cointuum, aka "DC," is one of the most straightforward ways the comics have described the highly complicated nature and hierarchy of existence in the DC Universe.
However, Batman's investigations into the Divine Continuum and time and space itself are made more difficult with Corky Baxter's arrival, a former Time Master. He tells Batman he hopes his messing with the timeline will lead Rip Hunter to put the group back together. Baxter even taunts the hero, saying he can already guess how Hunter will change his timeline due to his interference. But, perhaps Batman is betting on a meeting with Hunter, as the time expert can provide him with answers he's looking for about the timeline and how it operates. With Batman coining the term Divine Continuum and giving a new meaning to "DC" in the pages of DC Comics, he's already one step ahead of those trying to stop him. In the end, it's a fitting name for the all-encoming time and space the comics are a part of.
