Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Batman: Legends of Gotham #1
In DC's new Batman: Legends of Gotham one-shot, DC's Task Force Z series, though the Bane Red Hood killed was revealed to be an imposter.
As seen in the new Batman: Legends of Gotham #1 from Andy Diggle and Karl Mostert, Red Hood ed forces with Outsiders Katana and Black Lightning. Seeking to recover a cache of secret metahuman data stolen from Bruce Wayne's Batcomputer, Jason infiltrates a black market auction on the island nation of Gamorra featuring a wide selection of DC villains (including Bane). Apparently, Red Hood still has enough of an outlaw reputation that he's allowed inside the auction with little issue. However, it's eventually revealed that Red Hood's primary motivation was never the cache but to get close to Bane, wanting to kill him for murdering one of the few people who ever showed him unconditional love and kindness. However, Katana and the memory of Alfred himself surprisingly convince Jason to let go of his anger and move on.
Red Hood Makes Surprising Decision With Bane
By agreeing to end his revenge quest on Bane with the intent to kill him, a new opportunity has been created for Red Hood's rivalry with the Batman villain. Although Jason no longer wants to murder Bane, he should still receive justice for all that he's done over the years. As such, there's some exciting potential if Bane started becoming more of a recurring nemesis for Red Hood as opposed to the Dark Knight.
Seeing as how this new issue is only a one-shot and not the start of an ongoing series, Legends of Gotham seems to be setting up an event or series in the future, one where DC's heroes will have to contend with Talia al Ghul who got her hands on the data cache by the issue's end. Apart from Red Hood having a role in DC's current Joker series, Jason Todd currently doesn't have his own series. Perhaps it's time for a Red Hood and the Outsiders series that sees Bane and Talia ing forces using all these newfound metahuman secrets?
At any rate, Jason's decision to move on from lethal revenge is a surprising move when it comes to Bane. However, Alfred was instrumental in that decision, seeing as how he had always encouraged Red Hood to channel his anger to help him move forward with a greater purpose. Here's hoping Red Hood continues to honor Alfred's memory going forward in the DC Universe. Batman: Legends of Gotham #1 is on sale now from DC Comics.
