Warning! Contains Spoilers For Superman #20!
Ask readers who DC's most powerful villain is, and many will say Doomsday, officially naming the heavy-hitter Superman antagonist the strongest in the DCU. At the end of history in the DC Universe, Doomsday will still be standing, something not even Darkseid can claim.
Superman #20 – written by Joshua Williamson, with art by Dan Mora – contains one of the biggest character reveals in comics this year, as it established that Doomsday will eventually become the Time Trapper. No matter how many brutal fights Doomsday gets in, he'll never actually die, he'll simply keep evolving until the end of time.
As Doomsday explains this to Superman, he reveals the greatest fights that he's had throughout his eternal life. Some of these are well-known fights, such as fighting Superman in Hunter/Prey, while others have yet to come to in DC's current timeline.
Doomsday's Unparalleled Ability To Evolve Makes Him DC Comics' Greatest Villain
Superman #20 – Written By Joshua Williamson; Art By Dan Mora; Color By Alejandro Sanchez; Lettering By Ariana Maher.
It might seem hard for most comic book fans to imagine that Doomsday could ever beat Darkseid, as Darkseid is a literal God with the Omega Effect, but Doomsday's greatest power is his complete inability to be killed and his freakish evolution powers. Because of this, Doomsday will simply keep evolving again and again until he's the final being in the universe. The Time Trapper version of Doomsday even states that all he needs is one more evolution to become a literal God.
Every death and defeat that Doomsday suffers brings him one step closer to being unstoppable.
Longtime DC readers know Doomsday has one of the most heartbreaking origins of all. Way back before the evolution of Kryptonians, Doomsday was part of an experiment to see if one could force evolution. Doomsday started out as just a regular child, but was brutally killed over and over again by the brutal wildlife of pre-historic Krypton. The scientist in charge of this experiment was ultimately successful; Doomsday was forced evolve faster than any other living being, but it also instilled a complete hatred of all living things in Doomsday.
Because of the experiment Doomsday went through, every time Doomsday dies, he will eventually revive and evolve to become immune to whatever killed him. If someone punches Doomsday hard enough and manages to kill him, he'll come back to life and be significantly more durable to blunt force trauma. This has made him one of the most dangerous villains in the DC Universe, but considering Doomsday has been defeated in the past, it's easy to forget just how powerful this evolution ability is. Every death and defeat that Doomsday suffers brings him one step closer to being unstoppable.

After 29 Years, We Have Finally Learned How to Beat DC's Doomsday
Although Doomsday is one of DC's most powerful villains, Superman #20 drops hints there are far stronger forces out there, seeking revenge on Doomsday
Superman is an unbelievably powerful character and there are very few people who could bring him down in comic books. The fact Doomsday was able to defeat Superman at all is a massive testament to just how powerful he is. Superman and Doomsday would fight again and again over the years, and while Superman would never die fighting Doomsday again, this doesn't mean that Doomsday got any weaker. One of the most interesting aspects of Time Trapper Doomsday's recollection of his past and future fights is the revelation that he will eventually fight Superman One Million.
Doomsday Doesn't Is DC Comics' Ultimate Survivor – Making Him The Universe's Final Villain
A Waiting Game
One of the most powerful versions of Superman in existence is that of Superman One Million, also known as the Superman of the 853rd century. This Superman first appeared in DC One Million #4 by Grant Morrison and Val Semeiks. As most people know, Superman gains his powers from being in with the yellow sun. This version of Superman spent fifteen-thousand years in the yellow sun. This granted him powers beyond anything that any other version of Superman has.

DC's Iconic "Death of Superman" Cover Gets an Ominous Twist in Official New Art
One classic Superman villain rises to Doomsday's threat level in ominous cover art that paints an extremely bleak future for the Man of Steel.
This puts in perspective just how much Doomsday can evolve. In his first story, Superman and Doomsday beat each other to death in a stalemate. Yet Time Trapper Doomsday claims that, eventually, he will become powerful enough to face off against Superman One Million. While Doomsday likely doesn't win this fight, he does survive it. Which is still incredibly impressive and shows just how dangerous Doomsday truly is – and how he is essentially the endgame villain of the entire DC Universe.
Not Even Darkseid Himself Could Stop Doomsday, Proving The Latter Is More Powerful
The Ultimate DC Villain Showdown
While Superman is certainly strong, he's far from the strongest character in DC. So, it's worth asking how other powerhouse characters have fared against Doomsday. The answer is surprisingly poorly. Doomsday has also gone up against the likes of Darkseid, and Doomsday won. In Superman/Doomsday: Hunter/Prey, Doomsday found his way toward Apokolips, which resulted in Darkseid having to defend his planet from the monstrous beast. What followed was Darkseid being completely destroyed by the monster and having to resort to teaming up with Superman to beat him.
Doomsday has already proven he can defeat both Superman and Darkseid, and if he continues to evolve, he'll eventually become a god that no one can defeat.
Considering just Darkseid lost to Doomsday, but it's true. Even Darkseid's greatest attack, the Omega Effect, had absolutely no effect on Doomsday; this resulted in Darkseid having to fight Doomsday using raw strength, and Doomsday easily came out as the victor. This was a version of Doomsday that had evolved after fighting Superman back in Death of Superman. This means that, comparatively, this Doomsday is pretty weak compared to what he could become, which means Darkseid stands absolutely no chance against him.
Doomsday has been defeated plenty of times in the past, but every defeat has only made him smarter and stronger. Doomsday has been killed, he's been sent to Hell, he's been trapped in the Phantom Zone, none of it matters. He always comes back. While there are characters in the DC Universe, like Superman, who are stronger than Doomsday now, that won't be the case forever. Doomsday has already proven he can defeat both Superman and Darkseid, and if he continues to evolve, he'll eventually become a god that no one can defeat.
