Warning! Spoilers ahead for Lazarus Planet: Alpha #1!In the wake of a worldwide calamity, a new iteration of the Teen Titans could be on the horizon. DC hints that Lazarus Planet: Alpha #1 sets the ground for a creative new spin on the classic team of teenage heroes.

The Teen Titans are one of the DC Universe's most iconic teams, existing for nearly as long as the Justice League. Since their initial era with the 'Fab Five' of Robin, Wonder Girl, Speedy, Aqualad, and Kid Flash, there have been several new versions of the team, composed of sidekicks and younger heroes. The original Teen Titans recently came together to lead a new school of heroes in Teen Titans Academy to help guide the newest generation. For the most part, the Teen Titans have existed to provide a home for the heroes of tomorrow and help put their powers to good use.

But a new version of the team could be on the horizon that gives the Teen Titans a bold, new purpose. In Lazarus Planet: Alpha #1 by Mark Waid and Riccardo Federici, a magical storm is raging across the world as a result of a volcano exploding on Lazarus Island. Damian Wayne gathers as many available heroes as he can to track down the Devil Nezha and recover the magical artifacts he stole. As the heroes depart, Damian stays behind with Monkey Prince and Black Alice. Black Alice spends time alone, recovering from Nezha using her to siphon the magic from the world's most powerful items. But Monkey Prince checks in on her, offering her an ear if she wants to talk. The two have a small moment together, coming to an agreement that Damian Wayne is a jerk.

Is DC Planting The Seeds For A New Teen Titans?

Monkey Prince and Black Alice DC Comics

While the moment itself is sweet, that the Monkey Prince, Black Alice, and Robin could be the founding of a new iteration of the Teen Titans. And unlike previous teams, this new Titans could be one largely focusing on magic. This make sense as Monkey Prince and Black Alice both have magical backgrounds and Damian Wayne is a pretty solid authority on the DC Universe’s magic. A potential ‘Teen Titans Dark’ could be a much-needed team in the wake of Lazarus Planet.

While the consequences of Lazarus Planet have yet to be explored, the Devil Nezha’s attack on DC’s magic s may create some long-lasting problems. Sure, Black Alice may be able to return everyone’s magic back to their items, but what about the Lazarus Resin storms and the side effects its having on everyone? For that matter, what about Nezha’s son, King Fire Bull, and his attempt to harness the Eight Immortal Powers. These are the sort of things that only a few heroes are connected to, namely the trio of Robin, Monkey Prince and Black Alice. A Teen Titans Dark may be the only way the DC can overcome the brewing magical problems seen in Lazarus Planet: Alpha #1, on sale now.
