The next live-action incarnation of Wonder Woman comes to life in brilliant fan-casting through new Gunn's DC Universe, fans are actively curious to see who will become the next big-screen version of the heroine.

As the world will have to wait and see who will be cast as the DC Universe's Wonder Woman, @felipe_illaart recently shared new artwork suggesting a possible casting for the DCU's hero. In this scenario, Your Monster, Scream, and Scream VI actress Melissa Barrera is imagined as the beloved DC icon, in a rendition notably not based on the old-school Wonder Woman, but rather a newer version. Check it out below:

The version of Diana that Barrera is imagined as in the DC Universe art is based on the new Absolute Wonder Woman comic run, which is currently happening in DC Comics' Absolute universe. As of right now, Wonder Woman has only been shown through a quick glimpse in the Creature Commandos season 1, episode 4 trailer, with no solo projects for the heroine planned other than the prequel series, Paradise Lost, which will take place before Diana's birth.

What The Melissa Barrera As Wonder Woman Art Means For The DC Universe

As time will tell when a Wonder Woman solo movie is happening in the DC Universe, it comes as no shock that fans are already looking ahead to who should play her in this new franchise. Even if the Paradise Lost TV show will be the first real exposure to Diana's world and mythology, it's hard to imagine Wonder Woman's modern story not being currently worked on by DC Studios. While Barrera has heavily been known for her work in the horror genre, the DC Universe artwork also suggests that her audience is ready to see her a superhero property like the DC Universe.

However, a bigger takeaway from Barrera's Wonder Woman art to take into is the growing interest that is coming to life for a different version of the DC icon. Even though Absolute Wonder Woman has just started this fall, fans like the idea of perhaps seeing one of DC's fresher interpretations of Diana. It could also signify that the DC Universe audience wants a fresh portrayal of Wonder Woman in order to separate the reboot from the DCEU movie timeline.

Our Take On The Melissa Barrera As DCU's Wonder Woman Art

While there are handful of known details about Wonder Woman in the DC Universe, a talented actress like Barrera would be phenomenal for Gunn's franchise, as she could bring new elements to the famous superhero for DC Studios. Since Barrera has yet to get attached to a superhero property, the DC Universe could be the ideal destination for her, especially for a role like Wonder Woman. But until Gunn reveals when Wonder Woman's live-action trajectory is supposed to start, fans will have to wait and see what is in store for the hero in the DC Universe.

The DC Universe is one of the biggest comic book franchises and often competes with Marvel. DC Comics started as National Allied Publications, founded by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson in 1935. Since then, the franchise has exploded with thousands of comic books, movies, TV shows, and video games. 2013 marked the beginning of the most recent iteration of the superheroes, with Zack Snyder introducing Henry Cavill as Superman. After several movies with mixed reviews, DC underwent a soft reboot under the helm of James Gunn and Peter Safran.
