DC's next great superhero, Naomi. But the teenage team will be adding a few more heroes to the mix next year.
Writer Brian Michael Bendis tweeted out artist John Timms' cover for Young Justice #14. While the book won't hit shelves until 2020, the heroes set to appear will definitely catch the attention of seasoned fans. As if the reunited Young Justice team wasn't already stretching the size of their ranks, they'll need to make room for Arrowette, Spoiler, Aqualad, and Sideways!
It's an interesting mix of heroes. Sideways first debuted in Sideways #1 and was a part of the "New Ages of DC Heroes" line (before getting future Batman writer James Tynion IV. Aqualad is a fan-favorite from the Young Justice animated series who's appeared in many Aquaman stories, including the most recent run by Kelly Sue DeConnick. So what story will be bringing them into the fold with the rest of the book's heroes?
The Young Justice team, like the Justice League and other superhero teams, works well when having interchangeable . In this case, it opens up the roster in case any of the heroes get called up to a bigger team. Adding more heroes to the series might seem like overkill, but it would be surprising to only a few of them stick around on a permanent basis. Spoiler and Aqualad are both bigger characters who are still important to other books. As for Sideways and Arrowette, they are ripe to the team. Neither hero currently is part of a big run or arc, so letting them further develop on the Young Justice team would be a smart move by Bendis.
In the end, the four heroes might just end up ing the team for a brief stay come March. Even if that's the case, it's great to see more young heroes play in the Young Justice sandbox.
