The DCEU has been around only since 2012 but it already managed to offer plenty of fascinating, action-filled stories to the audience. Not only did it re-introduce some of DC's most famous heroes, such as Superman and Batman, but it also gave an opportunity to those who hadn't appeared on the big screen before - Wonder Woman and the Birds of Prey, to name just two iconic DC properties.

Even though the DCEU films primarily focus on action and heroes fighting bad guys (or bad guys fighting even worse guys), they still have a lot of space for other things. Such as humor - and, of course, romance. With so many intriguing characters, it's no wonder they fall in love - but some couples work better than others.

Best: Superman And Lois Lane

Clarks and Lois Batman V Superman

While it's true that there are best portrayals of this iconic couple, they kickstarted the DCEU, so they deserve a spot on this list. The fact is Superman/Clark Kent and Lois Lane complement each other well, and they inspire each other to be better, to try harder.

The affection between them isn't born immediately but it's strong. That's why Lois takes it so badly when it looks like Superman is dead.

Worst: Harley Quinn And Poison Ivy

What? Some may ask. These two weren't a couple in the DCEU! Well, they were, but they broke up before the events of Birds of Prey (2020). More importantly, Ivy broke up with Harley, broke her heart. Harley briefly mentions it and from the looks of it, she's not entirely over it.

Shame the movie didn't show more of their relationship, shame they couldn't make it work since they form a surprisingly good couple in other adaptations - in the comics, or the animated TV show Harley Quinn.

Best: Wonder Woman And Steve Trevor

From the looks of it, Steve Trevor was accustomed to milder, more conventional women - and then he met Diana. The Amazon princess is the type of person who pursues her goal and won't stop until she wins.

Both Diana and Steve cared deeply about other people, and that, alongside their shared sense of humor, brought them closer. Unfortunately, this romance didn't last long but Diana's heartbreak over Steve felt genuine and made more sensitive viewers cry.

Worst: Harley Quinn And Joker

The truth is that The Suicide Squad (2016) did multiple things right - but the relationship between Harley Quinn and the Joker wasn't one of them. They weren't given enough space as a couple, so it felt lacking.

Plus, it's difficult to overlook that their relationship is far from healthy - in the comics, Joker doesn't even like Harley, he abuses her, and she's more of a pet to him than a partner.

Best: Tom Curry And Atlanna

This side couple is the best example of the rule that sometimes real love just doesn't die. Yet, it may sound like a fairytale rule, but if the audience suspends their disbelief for a moment, it works.

Even after they were forced to separate, Arthur's father Tom still loved his wife and he waited for her on the pier each day - until she actually came back to him many years later. Talk about devotion.

Worst: Enchantress And Rick Flag

This relationship worked even less than the one between Harley Quinn and the Joker. Simply because not only were these two mismatched - a villain, and a good guy - but the chemistry between them was nonexistent.

As a result, it was easy to forget there was an attempt at a romance between these two in the first place. Funnily enough, Rick Flag works much better alongside Harley Quinn in the comics.

Best: Jonathan Kent And Martha Kent

Alright, these two didn't have that much space together in the DCEU since Jonathan died in the first movie Man of Steel (2013). However, from the brief glimpse, the audience did get into their relationship, it was clear they respected and loved each other very much.

Plus, not every marriage would be able to withstand adopting an alien baby, but theirs did and Jonathan and Martha were even stronger for it as a couple, so they deserve a nod.

Worst: Wonder Woman And Batman

Don't get us wrong - these two have amazing chemistry together in the DCEU. Plus, in the comics, they both flirted with each other, and Batman even kissed Wonder Woman. But they never made it any further in the DCEU than to friends and colleagues - with a bit of awkward flirting on top of that.

They could have potentially been great together but Wonder Woman was still mourning Steve Trevor, and Batman is... well, Batman, so any chance at a relationship between them quickly died out.

Best: Aquaman And Mera

What happens when two stubborn personalities get together? The fireworks fly and the audience has fun. Arthur Curry/Aquaman and Mera didn't exactly see eye to eye at first.

But as time progressed and they spent more and more time together, they began to see the value in the other person. And, as they did in the comics, they ultimately got together. These two will always challenge the other one to be a good person, a better person, and that's alright.

Worst: Orm And Mera

Aquaman and Mera made a good couple in the end. Orm and Mera? Not so much. If they were indeed married, it's doubtful whether they would ever fall for each other.

Despite their betrothal, it was obvious that had vastly different personalities and it's safe to assume that their potential marriage would be unhappy. Luckily for everyone involved, Mera ended up with Orm's brother Arthur in the end, just like she did in the comics.
