The DCU just provided the first glimpse of their Batman, and it perfectly sets up a dream casting for the character with Alan Ritchson. While the DCU is building towards a new version of the Justice League, there are still several major players who have yet to be cast, or at the very least, they have yet to be announced. Among them, potentially the most highly anticipated is Batman. While the character has been confirmed to star in an movie titled The Brave and the Bold, very little about the project has been announced, which James Gunn has stated has been due to the story still lacking the right script to progress production.

However, while DC Studios remains tight-lipped and careful in their slow approach, one actor has spoken out about his desire to play the role. Alan Ritchson, an actor who is no stranger to DC projects and playing various superheroes, could step up to play the part, and after the first look at the hero in the DCU, it feels more possible than ever. But, there are still many steps between now and the official live-action introduction of the DCU's Batman down the road.

The DC Universe Just Revealed Its Batman

Batman Is Officially In The DCU

While the role has yet to be cast, and the Batman movie is still in the earliest stages of production, James Gunn has dropped the first official appearance of Batman in the animated series, Creature Commandos. Obviously, this does not necessarily mean they have an actor in mind, and with only two brief glimpses, with the hero being dead in a vision that Circe reveals to Amanda Waller, and a flashback from Doctor Phosphorus, there is still a lot of flexibility in casting and shaping the character.

However, in both depictions of the character for the animated series, the hero has been portrayed as a large, physically imposing, and bulky figure. In the past, actors cast to play the Batman have not always been very physically large or muscular, considering the suit tends to add on a lot of bulk. However, versions like the Ben Affleck Batman seen in the DCEU were significantly larger physically. And if the DCU wants to continue this trend, then there is one actor who stands tall among the potential candidates.

Alan Ritchson Revealed His Dream DC Role

While discussing his career and future with The Hollywood Reporter, Alan Ritchson revealed that his dream DC role would be to play Batman in the DCU. In fact, the actor gushed about his love for the character, highlighting his favorite parts of Batman, and how he very much wants the opportunity to play the hero on the big screen. And, to be fair to the actor, it appears that he has taken the time and effort to really dig into the character and gain an appreciation for him.

I'm getting this question, would I rather play Batman or Joker - Joaquin Phoenix crushed it, there's no following that. I would love to play Batman, there, I said it! Okay I'll shout it from the rooftops, 'I want to be Bruce Wayne!'

Beyond stating his desire to play the hero, Ritchson highlighted the biggest strength of the character being his intelligence. Despite not having other superpowers, Batman is a genius. So, it's clear that Ritchson wants the chance to play Bruce Wayne, but beyond his own desires, there are actually a lot of valid reasons why the actor would be a great fit. Even considering the range of talent who are constantly being fancast to play the part and help lead the DCU into an era of success and growth.

Alan Ritchson Could Be A Perfect Fit For The DCU's Batman

And He Has Done A Lot Of Work With DC Already

Firstly, the design of the character does appear to line up with the vision that was portrayed in Creature Commandos. While this is not essential, James Gunn has highlighted the fact that the design in the episodes is based on educated guesses of what he wants for the characters, and so, matching that vision will be a benefit for the actor who is successful in landing the role. Ritchson is a spectacular 6' 3", with a physique that landed him the leading role in the action series Reacher.

But, long before he rose to the ranks of leading action hero, Ritchson has already spent a lot of time playing superheroes, specifically in DC TV shows. From 2005 to 2010, Ritchson actually played the role of Arthur Curry, aka, Aquaman in Smallville, where he played the role a handful of times. Then, between 2018 and 2021, he tackled the role of Hank Hall, aka Hawk, in Titans. He clearly has a connection to DC, a ion for the character of Batman, and the physique and talents to match the role. So, all things considered, Alan Ritchson could be the perfect person to cast as the DCU's Batman.
