The Roots of Dread DLC for Dead by Daylight includes a Killer, The Dredge, and this new character has a few unique perks that can be used strategically to help players quickly win a trial. Roots of Dread is set to release on all platforms on June 7, 2022. Until the DLC is released, players can access the Public Test Build on Steam to test out The Dredge's unique abilities.

The new Killer in Dead by Daylight comes from the suppressed dark thoughts of the people that lived in The Fold. The leader of The Fold deceived his followers by making them believe the only way to have a happy, peaceful community was to suppress their dark thoughts to the point that they were tortured and sleep-deprived by their own minds. The community's darkness manifested into The Dredge, a formless creature that moved in the shadows and took people from their homes while they slept. Eventually, the act of supressing dark thoughts tore the people of The Fold apart leaving behind only The Dredge to lurk in the shadows.

The Dredge's perks include Dissolution, Darkness Revealed, and Septic Touch. Dissolution allows The Dredge to automatically break a pallet that was fast-vaulted over by a recently injured Survivor in Dead by Daylight. The Darkness Revealed ability will reveal Survivors within eight meters when the Killer searches a locker. Septic Touch causes the Blinded and Exhausted status effects to all opponents if a healing action is performed in The Dredge's terror radius after injuring a Survivor. The Dredge's perks complement its powers and help players easily track Survivors down to win a trial.

How To Win As The Dredge In Dead By Daylight

Dead by Daylight Killer Guide The Dredge Perks Tips & Strategies The Dredge Killing Survivor

The Dredge's best ability is Nightfall, and players need to use The Gloaming to activate it. The Gloaming ability allows The Dredge to teleport to a locker that it's looking at, leaving behind a remnant. While The Gloaming is active, players can fill the Nightfall meter by teleporting and injuring or hooking Survivors like Jonah Vasquez in Dead by Daylight. Filling the meter will automatically activate the Nightfall ability.

When using The Gloaming, The Dredge can either return to the remnant, exit the locker, or teleport to another locker on the map using a power token. With Reign of Darkness, The Dredge starts a trial with three power tokens and can regenerate them by teleporting back to the remnant after using The Gloaming. When the Nightfall meter is full, the ability will cause complete darkness across the map for Survivors with only the Killer visible.

The player's primary objective while using The Dredge is to activate Nightfall, so teleporting to lockers as often as possible is recommended. This also allows the Killer in Dead by Daylight to quickly get around without Survivors spotting them. The Dredge relies heavily on stealth, so players should take advantage of its sneaky abilities. Utilizing the shadows to surprise Survivors will help the Killer quickly take out their opponents and win trials.
