A terrifying reveal trailer for the next Dead by Daylight's crossover with Ringu, a Japanese horror novel and film that inspired 2002's American remake The Ring, was first announced back in December 2021.
Released in 2016, Dead by Daylight sees two teams go head-to-head in an asymmetric multiplayer horror experience. Four players take on the roles of various human survivors who are tasked with repairing five generators in order to escape from the map. The killer, meanwhile, must hunt down and kill the survivors as sacrifices to a demonic entity. Since its launch Dead by Daylight has initiated various crossovers, pulling in new killers and survivors from popular horror series like A Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween and Hellraiser. In January 2022 a new Dead by Daylight crossover with Saw was launched, bringing back the iconic pig-masked killer Amanda Young and the unsettling puppet Jigsaw.
Behaviour Interactive has released a trailer for the crossover between Ringu and Dead by Daylight via YouTube. The game's Sadako Rising chapter will see the titular Onryō become a playable killer, with a grown-up Yoichi Asakawa returning from the 1998 film as a playable survivor. The trailer shows The Onryō spawning by crawling out of a television, as it does in an iconic scene in Ringu, and its abilities appear to include teleportation or invisibility. Survival horror fans will be able to experience Sadako Rising when it comes to Dead by Daylight on March 8, 2022.
Dead by Daylight has become well-known for horror crossovers, with the multiplayer title serving as a Super Smash Bros. for deranged killers and supernatural monsters. Last year's Dead by Daylight and Resident Evil crossover paid homage to the survival horror genre's origins by adding a new killer and two new survivors from the beloved series. Behaviour Interactive added survival horror veterans Jill Valentine and Leon S. Kennedy as two hardened survivors, while the relentless biological weapon Nemesis became a playable killer.
With each new update, Behaviour Interactive continues to expand the roster of horror icons available to control in Dead by Daylight. The terrifying Ringu has had a massive influence on the horror genre, and the new trailer for Sadako Rising gives players a glimpse at what the unsettling Onryō will be capable of in-game. The update is set to release on March 8, but gamers might only make it seven days after watching the newest Dead by Daylight chapter reveal.
Dead by Daylight is available on all platforms.
