The competitive multiplayer horror game crossover between Dead by Daylight and Ringu is just one of a handful of collaborations between the video game and other popular horror properties, a list that includes Saw's The Pig and Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

There are two groups of players in Dead by Daylight: the overwhelming majority of players in a match take on the roles of the Survivors, while one player fills the shoes of the Killer. As a survivor, players must run and hide from the Killer, as they have no means of directly harming them. Survivors can, however, attempt to outmaneuver or outwit a Killer by setting traps or using the environment to their advantage. Things are much different for the player filling the role of one of the game's Killers, who have heightened senses and can track down survivors with relative ease. Once they find a survivor, they can use one of their special abilities to incapacitate them before transporting them to a Hook for sacrifice. There are a number of different monsters, spirits, and crazed murderers that players can choose to inhabit when playing as the designated Killer in Dead by Daylight, each with its own unique set of skills.

It looks like the horror of Dead by Daylight will not be limited to the fictional realm once the update releases in full if a recent stream from content creator DieHardDiva is anything to go off of. DieHardDiva was previewing the chapter during a stream when she paused to comment on the monster's character-select screen. While DieHardDiva was talking, the monster suddenly jumped to the front of the screen, similar to how it does in The Ring and Ringu films. Unsurprisingly, this greatly terrified DieHardDiva, causing her to walk away from her camera momentarily.

Jump scares can be a dicey topic for many media fans. A lot of people can't stand their inclusion in any film, TV show, or video game, while others simply laugh them off, jokingly cursing them for being so startling. As more streamers preview this new Dead by Daylight chapter, viewers will surely see reactions from across this spectrum.

Once word spreads about this jump scare, though, it will inevitably lose some of its potency. By the time the update releases to the public, it might even end up losing all of its impact. Luckily, Dead by Daylight has plenty of frightening content to go around.
