The in-development EA has previously revealed that the new version of the game would include a number of updates and modifications, with the developer hoping to improve on the original Dead Space rather than drastically altering the gameplay and presentation. This was necessary due to the fact that the first entry in the series first launched back in 2008.
The same stream also showcased gameplay from the remake for the very first time. The combat in the Dead Space remake will have more depth, with the core mechanics largely remaining intact. In particular, players will be encouraged to use different weapons to tackle each situation. Keeping with series tradition, certain guns will be better for dismembering enemies while others are more effective at weakening opponents and exposing them to greater damage. Motive Studios stated this would force players to be thoughtful in combat, which was also the intent of original Dead Space creator Visceral Games.
Dead Space remake developer Dead Space remake's Isaac will be voiced and speak more frequently with other characters - although he will still have no dialogue during isolated gameplay sections.
Accompanying the news that Dead Space will feature more dialogue, Motive Studio also confirmed that it was bringing back the original trilogy's voice actor. Voice actor Gunner Wright portrayed Isaac Clarke across all three mainline Dead Space games, although this was largely confined to grunts, screams, and other non-verbal noises. The response towards Wright from fans of the series was noted as a factor when it came to Motive Studios deciding to bring him back for the role in the remake.
Today's live stream went into a great deal of detail about the possibly 2022-bound Dead Space remake, demonstrating that Motive Studios and EA are taking a refreshingly transparent approach with the series' return. While there are seemingly a lot of changes coming to the game, they are largely small alterations that will hopefully improve the overall experience and not shift the tone and atmosphere of the original.
