The Amazon Prime Video original series Deadloch put a clever spin on the murder mystery genre, and now it's returning for season 2. At the center of the Australian series is a string of murders in the fictional town of Deadloch in Tasmania that force two detectives (Dulcie Collins and Eddie Redcliffe) with extremely different personalities and investigation methods to work together to find the culprit. Throughout Deadloch season 1's eight episodes, the show took plenty of twists and turns while never missing a comedic beat.

The series constantly managed to subvert expectations, starting from the very first scene. It only needed a few minutes to illustrate that Deadloch is not a run-of-the-mill mystery television series with an obvious killer, and trope-filled detective characters. Despite the strong critical reception and gripping ending, the fate of Deadloch was left in limbo for the better part of a year. Fortunately, Prime Video opted to scoop up the murder mystery series for a second season, and details are already flooding in.

After the brilliant first season of Deadloch, viewers were left in limbo for an entire year as Prime Video weighed the future of the series. In July 2024, the streaming giant confirmed a second season of the 2023 hit, and even provided a slew of details about its sophomore outing. The second season will consist of 6 episodes, in contrast to season 1's 8, and production is slated to begin later in 2024. As such, no release date or production timeline is available yet, and there could be a long wait for more episodes.

Deadloch season 1 concluded on July 7, 2023.

Deadloch Season 2 Cast

Dulcie & Eddie Are Back On The Case

Though the full cast of Deadloch season 2 won't be known for some time, it has been confirmed that Kate Box will return as the straight-laced Dulcie and her co-star Madeleine Sami will also be back as the unorthodox Eddie. They aren't the only returning characters confirmed thus far, and Nina Oyama is also scheduled to reprise her role as Abby Matsuda alongside Alicia Gardener as Cath York.

It's already been confirmed that the new season will take the detectives away from Deadloch and to Top End, so that will necessitate a slew of new characters. Perhaps the biggest new star for season 2's ensemble is Luke Hemsworth (Westworld) who is tapped to play Jason Wade, a TV show host and owner of a crocodile park. Steve Bisley, Shari Sebbens, Genevieve Morris, Byron Coll, Nikki Britton, Anthony J Sharpe, Blake Pavey, Damien Garvey, Ngali Shaw, Bev Killick, Ling Cooper-Tang, Ursula Yovich, Syd Brisbane, Ines English and Lennox Monaghan, but nothing is known about their roles.

Deadloch Season 2 Story Details

The Detectives Investigate Murders In Top End

Dulcie Collins crouches and looks down at something in Deadloch.

Deadloch season 1 ended with Dulcie and Eddie catching the killer they had been chasing for eight episodes — Ray McLintock. Ray targeted and murdered abusive men in the name of feminism and wholeheartedly believed he was doing the right thing. During a confrontation between Ray and Dulcie, Ray stabbed her in the stomach before running away. Thankfully, she wasn't critically injured and readily received medical attention. Eddie chased Ray, and Dulcie later caught up with them. Ray jumped into a body of water, where a tree branch impaled and killed him.

The second season will continue Dulcie and Eddie's investigation into Bushy's death, but it will also see the team get sidetracked by a more pressing case in Top End.

Following the conclusion of season 1's mystery, Deadloch jumped ahead two months, and saw Dulcie and Eddie moving to Darwin to investigate Eddie's former partner's murder. The second season will continue Dulcie and Eddie's investigation into Bushy's death, but it will also see the team get sidetracked by a more pressing case in Top End. Exact details are still elusive, but Deadloch season 2 has already promised to deliver a bigger and more exciting case.
