Release dates for 20th Century Fox's into the Marvel Cinematic Universe may take even longer. So, until that happens, it's business as usual at Fox.
The studio recently announced plans to develop X-Men: Dark Phoenix, as well as in pre-production on Gambit. And today, 20th Century Fox has decided to move around the release dates for three of those movies.

THR reports that 20th Century Fox has moved up Deadpool 2, starring Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Josh Brolin as Cable, from June 1 to May 18. They also significantly delayed New Mutants, starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Maise Williams, from April 13 to February 22, 2019. As for Gambit, starring Channing Tatum as the eponymous superhero, the film is being pushed back from February 2019 to June 7, 2019.
Deadpool 2 will now open one week ahead of Ron Howard's Avengers: Infinity War. New Mutants, on the other hand, is replacing Gambit in February 2019, while the latter film is being pushed back to for its behind the scenes complications. The only movie that's still on track to meet its planned release date is X-Men: Dark Phoenix, which is due out this November.
This news comes on the heels of Gambit losing Gore Verbinski as director. Rise of the Planet of the Apes' Rupert Wyatt and Edge of Tomorrow's Doug Liman were both previously attached to Gambit but exited the project due to creative differences with the studio. Things finally seemed to be moving forward on the long-gestating superhero film when Verbinski boarded the project in 2017, but he also dropped the project this morning due to a scheduling conflict.
Seeing as 20th Century Fox is only pushing Gambit back a few months - and into a prime summer slot, no less - it seems they still plan on moving forward with the film sooner rather than later. And pushing New Mutants back almost one year is a strange move, especially since they've already begun marketing the movie, but reports suggest that the release date change will allow them time to make the movie scarier. At least fans can look forward to Deadpool 2 releasing earlier than expected.
