Marvel Studios is moving forward with abominable take on Deadpool featured in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds spearheaded a proper big-screen version of the Marvel anti-hero. Deadpool was a giant critical and financial success, and left no doubt that a franchise would come.

Fox released Deadpool 2 in theaters two years later, and though it wasn't as highly praised as the original, the sequel was still wildly successful. Fans were treated to an extended cut of the film and a PG-13 version, with the latter coming in the midst of discussions for Disney to acquire Fox, and the rights to Deadpool with it. The Disney-Fox deal ended many ongoing franchises and sparked plenty of discussions about the future of Deadpool.

Deadpool's future is now becoming more clear with news that Marvel Studios is making Deadpool 3. The movie has officially been announced, with the original writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese returning to pen the script. However, while the new Deadpool movie is now in development, there are some major questions left unanswered, such as when will Deadpool 3 come out, who else will be in it besides Reynolds, and what the story will be about. With all that in mind, here's everything we know about Deadpool 3.

When Is Deadpool 3 Coming Out?

There is currently no official release date for Deadpool 3, but the film is happening. While there was a lot of speculation regarding what would happen to the movie, former Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that Marvel Studios planned to make more Deadpool films long ago, while Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige also shared his interest in keeping the franchise going. More recently, Feige confirmed that, while writers have been hired for the sequel, fans shouldn't expect the movie to be out in theaters anytime soon. The new Deadpool movie won't begin production until 2023, because of the new director's prior engagements. This means that Deadpool 3 may not come out until 2024. There are some mysterious release dates that Marvel has slotted for that year, which are May 3rd, July 26th, and November 8th.

Deadpool 3 Has A New Director

Deadpool X-Force

The new Deadpool movie almost had an entirely new creative team. The first two movies were written by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, but they almost didn't return for Deadpool 3. Instead, Bob's Burgers writers Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin were been hired to write the script. Reynolds previously worked on the screenplay for Deadpool 2 and Feige revealed that, though he's not writing, the actor is overseeing the script by the Molyneux Sisters. In 2022, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick took over writing the script for the third movie, promising it will be just as R-rated as ever. David Leitch will not return to direct Deadpool 3, though, the new director will be The Adam Project's Shawn Levy. Levy and Reynolds have an extensive working relationship, so the team will undoubtedly make another great film.

Deadpool 3's Cast

The cast of Deadpool 3 is not confirmed outside of Ryan Reynolds' return as Wade Wilson/Deadpool and Leslie Uggams' Blind Al. He will be back to play the Merc with a Mouth for a fourth time on the big screen, if one counts X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The Deadpool franchise previously introduced several key characters, like Zazie Beetz as Domino and Josh Brolin as Cable. Whether or not either of them will return remains to be seen. Since Deadpool is ing the MCU, there will likely be some cameos from other Marvel characters that make it into the film.

The New Deadpool Movie Will Be The MCU's First

One of the biggest questions surrounding Deadpool 3 was whether or not it will be connected to the MCU. Deadpool 3 will reportedly maintain the franchise's R-rating, marking the first time Marvel Studios will make an R-rated MCU movie. Thanks to the fourth-wall-breaking tendencies of Deadpool, it wouldn't be difficult to explain the continuity. Luckily, Deadpool 3 has been confirmed as part of the MCU. In an interview with Collider, Feige revealed that the "very different type of character" will officially be ing the MCU proper. This is huge news and, although the new Deadpool movie won't be out for a while, it will be interesting to find out how the Merc with a Mouth fits in with the other MCU characters moving forward. Either way, it's bound to be a wild ride.
