Comics writer Rob Liefeld refuses to let any Deadpool, and the film's success led to the creation of a sequel. With two well-received movies under his belt, it seemed all but certain that Deadpool would return for a third adventure. However, the Disney-Fox merger has altered these plans somewhat, as now the Merc with a Mouth is set to the MCU.

After some uncertainty regarding the fate of Deadpool 3, the movie is now in development at Marvel Studios and appears to be making solid progress. Bob's Burgers writers Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin are on board to pen the script, and in August, Reynolds said there's a 70% chance Deadpool 3 could begin filming next year. Beyond that, though, little else is known about the movie, including whether or not previous cast like Josh Brolin and Zazie Beetz could return.

Liefeld, who has been rather outspoken about his opinions regarding the development of Deadpool 3, briefly spoke about the movie while appearing at New York Comic-Con this weekend (via Syfy). During his , a fan asked him if he could share anything at all about Deadpool 3, and Liefeld responded with a sarcastic, "Oh sure. Let me share everything I know about Deadpool 3! Where's the sniper that's going to shoot me?" On a more serious note, Liefeld added, "I'd love to tell you [what I know]. But I can't, because I value my life."

Naturally, all details of the Marvel production are being kept under wraps, but it does sound like Liefeld is being kept in the loop. With filming not likely to begin until sometime in 2022, fans shouldn't expect any concrete details about Deadpool 3 anytime soon. However, they shouldn't take that to mean nothing is happening with it; in addition to Reynolds' hope that shooting can take place next year, Marvel boss Kevin Feige previously confirmed there is a place for Deadpool 3 in the MCU's packed release schedule. It's definitely in the works, it's just a matter of when it will finally emerge.

Liefeld's comments probably won't do much to soothe impatient fans beyond assuring them that Deadpool 3 is in fact being worked on. The previous movie debuted in 2018, so it's been a bit of a wait. Still, as the first two Deadpool films have been so well-received, the third should end up being worth the wait. Hopefully, Marvel will see fit to share some Deadpool 3 in the coming months, perhaps once filming actually does commence. In the meantime, fans can theorize about what will come next in Wade Wilson's ever-evolving story.
