UPDATE: Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have confirmed that Wolverine will wear his yellow X-Men costume in Deadpool 3!
With Marvel Studios currently filming Deadpool 3, it's been teased that Hugh Jackman's Wolverine may finally wear his classic costume from the original comics. Despite playing Wolverine for over 20 years beginning with 2000's X-Men, Wolverine has never worn anything remotely resembling his iconic yellow suit and mask. However, rumors persist that Deadpool 3 will finally see Logan suiting up alongside Wade Wilson's Deadpool (played by Ryan Reynolds).
Predominately yellow with a black mask, Wolverine has one of the most iconic costumes in Marvel Comics. Although a live-action recreation was teased via an alternate ending for 2013's The Wolverine, Logan never put in on for future films. While the younger heroes of the X-Men cast eventually received comics-accurate suits, Jackman's Wolverine was notably left out. He's only ever worn black leather suits, civilian clothes, and at one point a tactical suit that had the smallest amount of yellow imaginable in 2014's X-Men: Days of Future Past. Now, Deadpool 3 can finally redeem Wolverine's costume failures with rumors he'll be wearing his classic yellow and blue suit.
Why Deadpool 3 Is Jackman’s Best Chance To Wear His Yellow X-Men Costume
Deadpool 3's tone will likely match the previous films starring Ryan Reynolds in the titular role with its irreverent and meta-based humor. As such, Hugh Jackman's Wolverine hasn't ever been in a movie like Deadpool 3, making it the perfect chance to mix things up and try new things. Likewise, that meta humor will likely lead to Logan not having a choice about wearing the costume one way or the other.
The odds are very strong that Deadpool will likely force Wolverine to wear the suit, wanting to finally appease the fans he very much knows exist thanks to his constant breaking of the fourth wall. It would certainly add to the teased feud the two heroes will apparently have in the MCU movie as well, mirroring the humorous "feud" held by Reynolds and Jackman in real life. All in all, Deadpool 3 is the best (and likely last) opportunity for Hugh Jackman's Wolverine to finally put on his comics-accurate suit in live action.
Deadpool 3’s Wolverine Will Be Very Different
It's also worth noting that Deadpool 3 will likely have differences with Hugh Jackman's next appearance as Wolverine compared to past movies. Jackman was last seen in 2017's Logan, a bleak future where a broken Wolverine sacrificed himself to save his daughter (as well as a very brief X-Men: Apocalypse cameo set in the 1980s). Beyond that, the version of Wolverine seen in Days of Future Past was more tame compared to past appearances where Wolverine was more aggressive. Now, Deadpool 3 and its R-rating seemingly promise a return to form with an angrier Wolverine in his prime, complete with a comics-accurate suit as the perfect icing on the cake.
