Warning! This article contains spoilers for Deadpool & Wolverine.
Summary
- Deadpool 4 has not been confirmed by Marvel, leaving the character's return uncertain.
- Potential story details suggest Deadpool 4 could explore ing the X-Men in the MCU.
- Deadpool could show up in the MCU in big team-up movies like Avengers: Secret Wars or an X-Men film.
With Deadpool's threequel, MCU has always made the most of the characters on its roster. Before Robert Downey Jr. retired from his role as Tony Stark, he appeared in nine different movies, three of which had his character as the title hero. Other heroes, like Thor, have appeared in four movies which were just in his own primary franchise.
Of course, Ryan Reynolds has already appeared as Deadpool in three franchise films, and Reynolds also debuted a divisive portrayal of the Merc with the Mouth in 2009s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Over that time, Deadpool has become one of the most beloved and exciting heroes in any Marvel movie, even beyond the MCU. That being said, now that Deadpool has finally made his way to the MCU, it's inevitable that fans of the anti-hero will be anxiously looking for where and when the character could return, if he returns at all.
Deadpool 4 Has Not Been Confirmed By Marvel
Marvel Has Plans For Many Years Ahead
All of that being said, Marvel hasn't officially confirmed or announced anything to do with the character's future. While heroes in the MCU are utilized to their absolute maximum potential across movies, sequels within any given franchise take time to be released. From the first Thor movie, to Thor: Love and Thunder, there was an 11-year gap. Ant-Man appeared later in the MCU, with his first movie being released in 2015, but even to complete his trilogy with Ant-Man: Quantumania, it took eight years.
Despite this, Marvel does create plans that cover several years into the future, with most of their big Phase announcements coming during huge events like San Diego Comic Con. If there is a future for the hero, it's likely he will have a cameo somewhere before a Deadpool 4 is created. But, once the mutants all settle into the MCU, there is every possibility that Marvel Studios will call on Ryan Reynolds to don the red suit once again. However, until something official comes out, all of this is hypothetical, and the fourth movie remains a hopeful dream.

Deadpool 4 Cast Info
Who Stars In Deadpool 4
While there is no certainty as to whether there will be a fourth movie, there are elements that a hypothetical Deadpool 4 would likely include. For example, the cast is likely to feature some key figures, starting with Wade Wilson himself. As of the end of Deadpool & Wolverine, Deadpool is alive and well, and his family of nine beloved close friends has grown slightly. In addition to Deadpool's ex-girlfriend, whom he clearly still has a shot with, Deadpool has friends like Dopinder, Peter, and Blind Al, who have been staples in the franchise to date.
Aside from those individuals who are almost certain to return, Deadpool now has his potential best friend, Wolverine, in his circle of friends, along with his quasi-daughter figure, X-23. While it is possible that Wolverine will forge his own path and continue his lone wolf lifestyle, this Wolverine learned the value of friendship and team work, and it would make sense for him to return. But, that could also minimize the impact of Deadpool & Wolverine as a wish-fulfillment movie. For that reason, it is more likely that a Deadpool 4 movie would lean further into the mutants in the MCU storyline, and it could finally explore Deadpool becoming a member of the X-Men, or at least an honorary member for some special mission.
Deadpool 4 Potential Story Details
Where Does Deadpool Go From Here
Deadpool 4's story is dependent in some ways on where it slots into the MCU. For Deadpool & Wolverine, it was fortunate in the fact that it was able to work on the outside of the Sacred Timeline, while flirting with that line through the TVA. Of course, Deadpool saved his timeline from destruction by securing a new anchor being, but, that doesn't mean he can't still cross over into the MCU proper. Especially with characters like America Chavez floating around the multiverse.
Deadpool 4 would likely still be about Deadpool being a reluctant hero. It would likely include cameos from other big talent for Deadpool to make witty fourth wall breaking commentary about. And, it could finally see Deadpool ing a big superhero team, like the Avengers or the X-Men. Deadpool has found a family, and his life will always revolve around protecting those people from harm, but the specifics of where the story could go are perhaps more malleable and full of potential than most other MCU titles.

Ryan Reynolds & Wesley Snipes Had A Legendary Feud On The Set Of This Forgotten Marvel Movie
Blade: Trinity had an infamous production, marked by several feuds including one between Reynolds and Snipes that has finally been addressed.
Where Else Deadpool Could Show Up In The MCU
Deadpool Could Return Elsewhere In The MCU
However, something like a big team up with the Avengers could be a more likely possibility in other MCU movies. As mentioned above, Marvel uses their actors and characters across a lot more than their own primary franchise. So, if Deadpool is to return any time soon, it is likely that he will show up somewhere where the Multiverse appears to be colliding. For this reason, a movie like Avengers: Secret Wars could be the perfect place for Deadpool to appear. Likewise, the hero could appear in Avengers 5, which is now undergoing some changes after the Kang storyline has been moved away from.
If not in either of the Avengers movies, Deadpool is an integral part of the mutant story who has shaped the timeline of the Fox X-Men universe and beyond. A Marvel X-Men movie is expected to appear on the slate sooner rather than later, and this could be the perfect place for Wade to come back and usher in the mutant era within the MCU. Deadpool 4 could be the next time the character appears, if that movie ever happens, but after Deadpool & Wolverine, the potential and possibilities for the hero are practically endless, and he could make a great addition almost anywhere else.
