A new Deadpool & Wolverine's cast has several exciting stars. Among the confirmed names are the lead duo of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, as well as newcomer villain Emma Corrin, past Deadpool franchise players like Morena Baccarin, and many more. Besides the confirmed actors from the past Deadpool movies and new additions to the MCU, there are many more stars rumored to appear in Deadpool & Wolverine, including new and old faces.

Most of the rumors surrounding new actors are regarding potential multiverse variants of Deadpool, Wolverine, and other Marvel characters. However, there are multiple actors from all over Marvel's live-action history — MCU or not — who are rumored to appear. Among those, one of the characters who could impact Deadpool & Wolverine's plot the most is Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange. The character has become one of the faces of the MCU — particularly regarding matters of the Multiverse Saga — and a Deadpool & Wolverine theory positions Doctor Strange to play a surprising and integral role in the only MCU movie of 2024.

Deadpool & Wolverine Theory Has Doctor Strange Assemble A Team

The Illuminati Might Inspire Him

Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange is the MCU character who has the most experience with the multiverse. While Tom Holland's Spider-Man did have a role at the center of the biggest multiverse event in the MCU so far, 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, the character saw other versions of Spider-Man and their villains come to his universe. Strange, on the other hand, traversed the multiverse in 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It is based on his expertise regarding the multiverse that a new Deadpool & Wolverine theory claims Doctor Strange will assemble a multiversal team in the film.

Multiverse of Madness put Doctor Strange face to face with a team of heroes from another universe, the Illuminati, which included names like Mr. Fantastic, Professor X, and more. Strange learned that the Illuminati took down Thanos but that he was the greatest threat to the multiverse. The movie also had Doctor Strange experience multiple different s with incursions. In Marvel Comics, an incursion is when two universes collide, and one or both are destroyed. Based on his run-ins with incursions, meeting with the Illuminati, and possibly being a danger to the multiverse, Strange could have a new mission.

Doctor Strange could be on a quest to stop incursions all over the multiverse. Based on how the Avengers are not currently active in the MCU, Strange's meeting with a superhero team from another universe could have given him the idea to assemble a team of his own that could try to save as many universes as possible. To do so, Strange would recruit heroes from several universes, and two of them would be Deadpool and Wolverine. The second trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine showed a sling ring portal that could be Doctor Strange's, with the hero recruiting the duo.

Doctor Strange Was Last Seen Going To Stop An Incursion

Clea Entered The Picture

The Deadpool & Wolverine theory would connect to Doctor Strange's last MCU appearance. After he managed to make the Scarlet Witch see that her actions were wrong, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' ending sent Cumberbatch's MCU character on yet another multiversal adventure. At the end of the film, Strange meets MCU newcomer Clea, played by Charlize Theron. Clea is one of the most powerful magic s in Marvel Comics, having even been the Sorcerer Supreme, and her MCU introduction was a big deal for both Strange and the Multiverse Saga.

Clea appeared to get Doctor Strange to stop an incursion he had accidentally created due to his dreamwalking. With Doctor Strange's latest MCU role being that he went off with Clea to the Dark Dimension to stop an incursion, the character could have just started on his new Multiverse Saga path. The Deadpool & Wolverine theory builds on that ending, with the incursion the duo went to stop being simply the first of many and to be able to stop all of them, Doctor Strange would need a multiversal team, as he could not be everywhere at the same time.

Avengers: Secret Wars Marvel Comics Inspiration Explained

The Multiverse Saga Has A Roap In The Comics

Much like how most MCU movies take cues from Marvel Comics stories, the finale of the Multiverse Saga, 2027's Avengers: Secret Wars, will be inspired by an event from the comics. While there are multiple company-wide Secret Wars events at Marvel, the movie will seemingly be more directly tied to the 2015 version of the story. That event was all about incursions, which have started to appear or be mentioned in the MCU and impact Doctor Strange's MCU role going forward. Like the comics, 2027's Avengers: Secret Wars could lead to a major incursion between Earth-616 and another one.

As Reed Richards will be a recent MCU addition when Avengers: Secret Wars comes around — Pedro Pascal's Reed debuts next year in The Fantastic Four — Doctor Strange could take his major role in the Avengers film. In the 2015 Secret Wars event, it was Reed Richards who rebooted the multiverse after Doctor Doom had taken all the power to himself and created Battleworld. With the MCU having Kang as the main villain of the Multiverse Saga instead of Doom, Doctor Strange's multiversal adventures could lead to him being the ultimate hero in the event, playing into the rumored MCU reboot.

Avengers: Endgame's final battle was one of the most exhilarating moments in MCU history. The long sequence featured several characters from all over the MCU fighting side by side against Thanos and his army, serving as the perfect major event to bring the Infinity Saga to a close. Avengers: Secret Wars will have a similar job to do, ending the Multiverse Saga, but given the success of its predecessor, the 2027 MCU film will have the even harder task of living up to Avengers: Endgame or suring it.

In order to top Avengers: Endgame, Secret Wars will have to include even more exciting characters than the Infinity Saga's finale did, and that could be where the Deadpool & Wolverine theory comes in. Doctor Strange assembling a team of multiverse heroes would be the perfect way to weave in past actors and MCU stars. The movie could include Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire's Spider-Men, as they have already met Doctor Strange, and major Multiverse Saga requests like Chris Evans' Human Torch and other of his Fantastic Four, Michael Fassbender's Magneto, the missing original MCU Avengers, and more.
