Warning: contains spoilers for X-Force #38Deadpool's latest battle in X-Force #38 was a brilliant pop-culture reference to the beloved anime and manga Attack on Titan, with Deadpool shown slaughtering a "Titan" giant from the popular series with ease.
Attack on Titan is a wildly popular manga series by Hajime Isayama that debuted in 2009, with its anime adaptation premiering in 2013, which follows protagonist Eren Yeager as he s the Survey Corps in an effort to protect his enclosed world by giant humanoid "Titan" monsters, who killed and ate his mother.
In X-Force #38 - written by Benjamin Percy with art by Robert Gill and Guru-eFX - Deadpool, Domino, and Omega Red must battle analogues of the monstrous Titans to gain access to the labs of the villainous Man With The Peacock Tattoo, with Deadpool quickly proving that a standard Titan is no match for the Merc With a Mouth, who takes down one of the giants with ease.
Deadpool Is The Perfect Marvel Hero To Take Down A Titan
Attack on Titan is an incredibly violent, brutal, and bloody series, which makes it absolutely perfect for an unofficial crossover with the X-Force team, who are also incredibly violent and brutal. X-Force is Krakoa's "wetwork" team, led by Sage and Beast - although The Man With The Peacock Tattoo," who was revealed to be a clone of the infamous Genoshan Genegineer from the 1990 "X-Tinction Agenda" X-Men event at the end of X-Force #37.
X-Force #38 sees Domino, Omega Red, and Deadpool infiltrating XENO's labs on Genosha to take down the cloned Genegineer, but first they are forced to get through a trio of massive humanoid giants, looking exactly like the "skinned" Titans from Attack on Titan. Domino is able to use rockets from their Bluebird aircraft to take down two of the Titans, before Deadpool steps up to take down the final one, using his infamous dual katana, another great reference to Attack on Titan, where of the Survey Corps also using dual swords to kill Titans. Deadpool's irreverent and disgusting humor is a perfect pairing for his battle against the Titan, making the often incredibly serious encounters between humans and Titans in Attack on Titan a lot more lighthearted. Wade is easily able to slaughter the last giant, purposefully being swallowed by the genetically modified monster before brutally bursting through its stomach.
Attack On Titan's Titans Wouldn't Stand A Chance In The Marvel Universe
While Deadpool is an ideal character to take down a Titan, with his incredible healing factor and impressive sword skills, the quick slaughter of all three giants in X-Force #38 also proves how the Titans from Attack on Titan would literally stand zero chance in the Marvel Universe. Particularly when considering the X-Men, who have fought so many Kaiju-sized creatures that Cyclops literally has "Kaiju Protocols" for how best to beat them, the standard Titans - and perhaps even the more powerful giants like the Colossal Titan, Beast Titan, or Attack Titan - would barely last a day when up against heroes like Storm, Magneto, Thor, Hulk, or any other major heavy hitter at Marvel.
While the horrifying Titans from Attack on Titan would certainly be cause for concern to the heroes of the Marvel Universe, Deadpool's quick and easy takedown of a Titan-analogue alongside X-Force shows that these giant monsters wouldn't stand a chance against the might of Marvel's heroes.
X-Force #38 from Marvel Comics is available now in stores.
