Warning! This article contains spoilers to Wolverine #19
The "Merc with a Mouth" Wade Wilson aka X-Force, a role he may be falling back into. Despite being introduced as an X-Force villain, Deadpool was at one point an X-Force member himself while also working with the X-Men on more than one occasion since. Now that the X-Men and all of mutantkind have established the Island Nation of Krakoa, Deadpool has basically been forgotten by the team, something that could push him back into villainy.
Deadpool was introduced in New Mutants #98 by Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza. In the issue, the then-villain burst into the X-Mansion as he had been hired to kill Cable. While he was defeated in his first on- assassination mission, Deadpool became one of the main villains in the first X-Force run. Deadpool’s wise-cracking personality and erratic mannerisms were always present upon his introduction, but they carried a more sinister tone as killing the heroes of whatever issue he appeared in was his main objective.
While Deadpool has come a long way since his villainous debut, the latest adventure undertaken by Wolverine along with the general treatment Deadpool has received from the X-Men would suggest that he could soon become a villain once again. At the end of Wolverine #19 by Benjamin Percy and Javi Fernandez in a dialogue-only exchange between Wolverine and Deadpool, Deadpool begs Logan to be put back on the X-Force team, to which Wolverine replies with a resounding and finite "No." The denial is especially insulting as Deadpool had been a main member of the X-Force alongside Wolverine in the series Uncanny X-Force. While this exchange may seem trivial and played off as more of a joke, it could be the final rejection Deadpool can take from the X-Men especially after the last time he encountered them.
After silently feeling the sting of rejection for too long, Deadpool finds a way to sneak onto Krakoa in Deadpool #6 by Kelly Thompson and Libranda, a decision he quickly paid for. When Deadpool arrived on the island, he was immediately attacked by the X-Men, then he was given a chance to explain himself to Quiet Council Member Emma Frost before being completely rejected and cast off the island. The reason Deadpool isn’t allowed to live on Krakoa is partly because he isn’t a mutant, but a mutate, as he was born a human. The other reason is because he is far too unpredictable and was deemed too dangerous to live on Krakoa.
After Deadpool worked really hard in the past to prove to the X-Men that he is trustworthy by helping them with missions and even ing one of their teams, he is still rejected by the mutants and cast out like he is nothing. The heaviest rejection was delivered in Deadpool #6 with the latest occurring in Wolverine #19, one that could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back and could throw Deadpool back into a role that he is all-too familiar with. After being turned away by the X-Men since the formation of Krakoa, falling from their graces after working with them for no other reason than they just don’t trust him, Deadpool is on the verge of becoming an X-Force villain just as he was upon his Marvel Comics debut.
