Warning: Contains spoilers for Weapon X-Men #3!!Marvel's new Weapon X-Men adds another layer to their already complex relationship by revealing that the two are much closer than fans knew, courtesy of a surprising superpower. The new power has apparently been around for decades, but Wade Wilson only just learned he has it.
In Weapon X-Men #3, Cable manages to get Weapon X-Men teammates Chamber and Thunderbird to Baron von Strucker's hidden base and stage a rescue mission for Wolverine and Deadpool. Cable was able to track them to the location, prompting Wade to assume he'd been following Logan. The truth is far more interesting.
Cable reveals that some of his DNA is a permanent part of Wade's gut biome, connecting them on the genetic level. This connection allows Cable to track Deadpool at will, and was caused by the two combining their genetics when the Facade virus threatened their lives way back in the early 2000s.

Deadpool and Cable’s Connection is Officially an Unsettling Superpower
Weapon X-Men #3 by writer Joe Casey, artist ChrisCross, inker Mark Morales, colorist Yen Nitro, and letterer Clayton Cowles
It's been ages since Deadpool and Cable faced the Facade Virus, a nasty little bioweapon that the fanatical One World Church designed to turn all of humanity into a homogenous society of blue-skinned acolytes. In Cable & Deadpool #5, by Fabian Nicieza and Patrick Zircher, they were both nearly taken down permanently, with Cable unable to suppress his techno-organic virus and Wade quite literally melting due to Facade's horrible side effects. The only way to survive was for Cable to essentially absorb Deadpool, intermingling Wade's healing factor and his techno-organic virus in a way that would free both from Facade's effects.
In the grand scheme of things, it's a minor ability, yet its existence practically codifies their friendship as a superpower.
In the immediate aftermath, Cable's teleportation tech identified Deadpool as part of his body, dragging him along whenever Nate used it - but apparently, there was an even more longlasting consequence. Considering their encounter with Facade happened years ago, it's quite the surprise to learn it left Cable with the ability to locate Deadpool. In the grand scheme of things, it's a minor ability, yet its existence practically codifies their friendship as a superpower. Because they saved one another, Nate can hunt Wade down and, in this particular case, stage a whole rescue mission as a result.

Cable and Deadpool Already Share One of Marvel’s Best Friendships
Their New Power Could Bring Them Together
ittedly, nobody calls Deadpool their friend a hundred percent of the time. No one can entirely predict what Wade's next move might be, let alone how he'll execute it, and the mercenary has come to blows with Cable on plenty of occasions. Yet, despite their many and varied differences, the two somehow always find their way back to one another, for reasons that go beyond this newly revealed gut-tracking system.
Introducing this particular superpower into the mix doubtlessly means the two will continue dancing around each other. They are quite literally linked together, and what is currently a small ability could be the foundation for plenty of future endeavors. Indeed, Deadpool has been considered an honorary member of the Summers family in the past - now, he has the DNA to justify it. If this unexpected ability brings them both together more often, that will be great news for fans.
Marvel Just Opened a Lot of Doors With Deadpool and Cable's Shared Power
Even the Smallest Piece of Lore Eventually Has Its Day
While there are certainly heroes in the Marvel Universe whose powers either greatly complement one another or even rely on each other to work, Cable and Deadpool's gut-based homing device is something different. It isn't overt, and aside from the rest of the Weapon X-Men, it's so secret that even Wade didn't know it existed. That's a tactic just waiting to be used again, and one that can be used to drag Cable into any story where Deadpool goes missing. Cable's ability to track Deadpool after healing each other from the Facade virus is a lasting reminder of their bond.
Weapon X-Men #3 is available now from Marvel Comics.
