The Ultimate Universe’s interpretation of Deadpool has long been an unpredictable character with his own unique sense of right and wrong, but on Earth-1610 - a reality Marvel used to tell new, modern stories without the baggage of established continuity - "Wadey" Wilson was a disgusting bigot who held just one, strange thing sacred.

In Miles Morales' home reality, Deadpool is an anti-mutant human supremacist, and first appeared in Ultimate Spider-Man #91 by Brian Michael Bendis, Mark Bagley and John Dell, facilitating the abduction of the X-Men by using a holographic imaging device to disguise himself as various teammates. The Kitty Pryde and Peter Parker of that reality were dating, and Spider-Man was captured along with the mutant team. Through the four-issue arc, Wadey Wilson spouted repulsive anti-mutant rhetoric and led the Reavers in a televised mutant hunt. This universe’s Wilson’s hatred of mutants inspired him to undergo extreme physical enhancements and added a gruesome twist to the typical Deadpool disfigurement.

The Ultimate Universe’s Deadpool’s physical looks and extremist ideology qualify him as the most disgusting Deadpool, and his respect for masks was his sole redeeming quality. Before pushing the X-Men and Spider-Man out of a helicopter to be hunted for sport on Krakoa in Ultimate Spider-Man #92, Deadpool stopped a member of the Reavers from unmasking Spidey, insisting, “Masks mean something. Respect that.” For a murderer who embraces hate-speech and hunting children, 'respect the mask' is a truly odd place to draw the line, though it's eventually revealed why Deadpool would care about this so deeply. When his face is revealed in Ultimate Spider-Man #94, it's clear he wears a mask and a holographic image-inducer to hide the terrible damage he chose as the price of mutant-hunting enhancements.

Ultimate Deadpool

Marvel is not stingy with its Deadpools in comics. The original Wade Wilson of Earth-616 has led the Deadpool Corps, a team of Deadpools, like Lady Deadpool and Headpool, from alternate dimensions. The Deadpool Corps have even fought against the Evil Deadpool Corps - a team which included Ultimate Wadey Wilson, who got skewered through the chest for his trouble. But in all the different versions of the character, Ultimate Deadpool is the most disgusting person, having sacrificed his humanity to better enact his hatred of the other.

If it seems unusual for Deadpool to take anything seriously, even a mask, it's because the mainstream character has changed with time. In early stories like Deadpool: The Circle Chase, he was incredibly sensitive about the damage done to his face by Weapon X, considering his mask his true face and panicking without it. Though he's found it easier to joke about his looks with time, nearly all versions of Deadpool feature some version of his unpleasant features, so to be the most disgusting of the bunch factors in more than looks. The Deadpool of Earth-1610 was as ugly inside as he was outside - a small-minded villain whose one mark of respect to others was ultimately revealed to be an expression of his own self-induced trauma.
