During its existence as a streaming service, Netflix has introduced a lot of original films. One of the more prominent features of last year, The Devil All the Time offered a unique view into the lives of people who are for the most part morally corrupt and downright despicable.

The film didn't treat its characters with kindness, be it the antagonists or the few truly kind people who appeared in it. Even the main hero, Tom Holland's Arvin, didn't always do the best thing. Considering their complex natures, it's no surprise it's difficult to find the right Hogwarts house for the film's characters.

Carl Henderson: Slytherin

Carl Henderson has the type of twisted mind lord Voldemort would no doubt appreciate. Carl Henderson would make an excellent Deatheater, as long as it would allow him to fulfill his impulses.

He's a serial killer who murders people thanks to his wife's assistance and he takes photos of their final moments. He's intelligent enough to get away with it for a long time until he tries to kill Arvin who outsmarts him.

Lee Bodecker: Hufflepuff

Lee Bodecker works as a sheriff and even though he's corrupt and wants as much influence as possible, he's not Slytherin material.

Instead, Lee just mostly seems to get lost in what's happening around him. As a result, he lets bad things happen. Hufflepuffs might sometimes be similarly swept up. Lee's later punished for his actions when Arvin kills him.

Preston Teagardin: Slytherin

Robert Pattinson in The Devil All The Time

Another character who would belong to Slytherin is reverend Preston Teagardin. Robert Pattinson's iconic Cedric Diggory went to Hufflepuff but Preston is an evil person who preys on naive girls.

His actions lead to the death of Arvin's adoptive sister Lenora. Preston doesn't even think he's doing anything wrong, he's convinced his actions are alright. He's charming and intelligent enough to fool other people into falling for his act.

Helen Laferty: Hufflepuff

The Devil All the Time Helen takes a walk with her husband Roy

Helen might not be the smartest person in the film but she has a good heart. She's loyal to her family, loves her daughter Lenora, and wants to take the best care of her she possibly can.

She's also devoted to her husband Roy. Loyalty and kindness are typical for Hufflepuffs. Unfortunately for Helen, she meets an untimely end when her husband murders her.

Sandy Henderson: Slytherin

The Devil All The Time Carl and Sandy in the Car

Sandy is the only person on this list who's in Slytherin not because she's evil but because of her circumstances. Married to a serial killer, Sandy obeys her husband before she fears what could happen if she didn't.

She doesn't seem to take pleasure in killing people but she doesn't defy Carl either. She has the chance to stop him but doesn't take it. That makes her complicit in his crimes and warrants her a place in Slytherin.

Charlotte Russell: Gryffindor

Just like many characters in the film, Charlotte also dies prematurely. However, not because someone murders her but because she gets cancer and succumbs to the illness.

Charlotte is a good person, kind to others. She helps those who need it. When her future husband Willard met her, he was her giving food to a poor person. Charlotte would thrive in Gryffindor thanks to her natural kindness and the fact that she bravely faced her disease.

Roy Laferty: Slytherin

Another former Harry Potter actor who played a significant part in this film is Harry Melling. Roy might not be as despicable as Preston or Carl but he's far from innocent. He murders his own wife because he believes God will give him the power to resurrect her.

Of course, that doesn't happen. No one feels sorry for Roy when Carl later murders him. Roy would be right at home in Slytherin alongside Bellatrix Lestrange and other people who believe their evil causes are just.

Willard Russell: Gryffindor

Arvin's father Willard might seem shy at first but he's a brave person. After fighting in the war, Willard isn't afraid to pursue the girl he likes. And when she falls sick and is dying, he does everything in his power to save her.

He does even things that require courage from him, such as killing his family dog. Willard doesn't always do the right thing but he would be a match for Gryffindor thanks to his ability to do even difficult deeds.

Lenora Laferty: Hufflepuff

Eliza Scanlen is outside as Lenora in The Devil All The Time

Lenora strikes a close friendship with Arvin and she's always there for him. Her loyalty to her family and to God is one of her defining features.

Unfortunately, Lenora proves to be naive too when she falls for Preston and he abuses her trust. When he finds out she's pregnant, he drives her away. Lenora too meets a tragic end.

Arvin Russell: Gryffindor

The Devil All The Time Tom Holland as Arvin Russell in Church

Arvin inherited his father's bravery. Throughout the film, he has to make multiple difficult choices. Even though he's scared, he stands up to people who are bullying his stepsister Lenora.

He later avenges her death by killing Preston although it terrifies him. Arvin might not be perfect but he protects those he loves and Gryffindor would suit him well because of this.
