Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Dexter: Original Sin season 1, episode 8.The shocking killer reveals continued in Dexter's best serial killers an even longer list of victims. The NHI Killer is none other than Brian Moser, aka the Ice Truck Killer.
In addition to all the serial killer drama Original Sin episode 8 had, the show also developed its characters quite a bit. Harry Morgan (Christian Slater) and Maria LaGuerta (Christina Milian) grew closer, Dexter (Patrick Gibson) learned to trust his dark instincts, and Deb (Molly Brown) got her first taste of betrayal and a hint of what her love life would offer in the main series. Original Sin episode 8 had so many big reveals and developments that it was almost too difficult to keep track of everything that happened, and it might be worth recapping.
11 Harry Morgan Told Dexter To Track Down Deb & Denied Aaron Spencer Could Be A Murderer
Harry Didn't Know Gio Was 25 & He Thought Dexter Was Projecting His Darkness Onto Spencer
After Deb stormed away from Harry in Original Sin episode 7, she told him she was going to stay with her boyfriend, Gio (Isaac Gonzalez Rossi). What Harry didn't realize, however, was that Gio is a 25-year-old man dating a 17-year-old girl, so he was understandably furious when Dexter told him that he had a beachfront apartment. Dexter also told Harry that he, Deb, and Gio had stolen Tiffany's car during their double date. Harry then commanded Dexter to track Deb down and bring her home, apparently seeing her decision to run off with him as an act of teenage rebellion.

Every Death In Dexter: Original Sin Season 1
There have been many deaths in the first half of the Dexter prequel series Dexter: Original Sin, including victims, killers, and a few key characters.
After he told Dexter to track Deb down, Dexter shared his revelation that Captain Aaron Spencer was Original Sin's main villain. Harry was, predictably, uninterested in Dexter's theory. He pointed out that Dexter only had circumstantial evidence to suspect Spencer, and he also pointed out the fact that he had known Spencer for over 20 years, and that he had only ever been a good captain and police officer during that time. Harry was so insulted by the insinuation that Spencer would kidnap his own son that he told Dexter that he was projecting his inner darkness onto everyone around him.
10 Deb Went With Gio To Bimini & Sofia Told Dexter That Deb Pushed Everyone Away
Debra Was Spiraling After Losing Sofia As A Friend & Getting Kicked Off The Volleyball Team
Deb didn't just stay at Gio's apartment for the night, however, she decided to tag along on one of Gio's business trips. Gio had to go to Bimini, a chain of islands in the Bahamas, to pick up a package for his father. Once they got there, Deb and Gio had a massive party complete with alcohol, cocaine, and Latin music on the beach. Strangely, Gio got mad that Deb had noticed some men bringing a crate onto his boat, but he also gave her a diamond bracelet. Deb even told Gio that she loved him, though he didn't say it back.

Dexter: Original Sin Reveals That Season 6's Most Shocking Deb Twist Almost Happened 20 Years Earlier
Dexter's season 6 finale featured one of the show's biggest twists for Dexter & Deb, but Original Sin season 1 reveals it almost happened way earlier.
At the same time, Dexter was following Harry's orders to track Deb down. Unfortunately, that meant he had to ask Sofia, who thought Dexter was cheating on her, for help. After Sofia made out with her new boyfriend in a futile attempt to make Dexter jealous, she told him Gio's last name. Sofia also said that Deb didn't want to be found, and that she had pushed everyone away since she was kicked off the volleyball team. Deb had lost her best friend and her dream college in a single day, so it seemed like she was using Gio as an unhealthy coping mechanism.
9 Maria LaGuerta & Harry Went On A Road Trip To Tampa While Investigating The NHI Killer
Harry & Maria Bonded Over Deb's Rebellion & Maria's Immigration To America
The main reason Harry couldn't track Deb down himself is because he was going on a road trip to Tampa with Maria LaGuerta (Christina Milian). After finding Maria kissing a very young Miguel Prado, she and Harry went after Paul Petrie, the man who owned the car they were investigating as part of the NHI Killer case in Original Sin episode 7. On the way there, Harry and Maria actually had a bonding moment in the car. Harry shared that he was struggling to connect with Deb, and Maria told him about her own experiences of teenage rebellion after she had emigrated to America.
Miguel Prado was a major character and the District Attorney in Dexter season 3.
When Maria and Harry finally made it to Tampa, they discovered that Petrie's house was already a crime scene. Some local detectives filled them in on their investigation, and revealed that Petrie couldn't be the NHI Killer because he had been murdered weeks prior. Petrie also turned out to be a therapist for troubled young men, and based on the fact that parts of his calendar had been ripped out, Tampa PD decided their main suspect was one of his patients. Unfortunately, they had over 300 patients to comb through, so they welcomed Harry and Maria's help.
8 Spencer Tried To Distract Dexter With Cold Cases, But Dexter Followed Him To A Seedy Meetup
Spencer Handed A Mysterious Plastic Bag To Someone, Who Then Brought It To Someone Else's House
After Dexter figured out that Captain Spencer had killed Jimmy Powell and kidnapped Nicky, he had some trouble at work. Spencer ordered Dexter to start reexamining the blood spatter on cold cases as a way to distract him from investigating Nicky's kidnapping any further. Tanya Martin (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Camilla Figg (Sarah Kinsey) thought it was a sign that Spencer was impressed with Dexter's ability to find the drop of blood on the side of the box, but Dexter knew better. He wondered what Spencer didn't want him to find, so he decided to keep digging.
Spencer ordered Dexter to start reexamining the blood spatter on cold cases as a way to distract him from investigating Nicky's kidnapping any further.
Spencer told the detectives of Miami Metro that he was going to go home for lunch so he could take a shower, and Dexter followed him when he left. Spencer didn't go home, however, and Dexter tailed him all the way to a shady meetup with a young man. Spencer gave the kid a stack of cash and a plastic bag, and Dexter decided to follow the kid. Eventually, the same young man pulled up to a house with a gnome in the front yard. Before Dexter could find out what was in the bag, however, Harry paged him and demanded to know where Deb was.
7 Maria & Harry's Suspect Was Murdered, But Harry Discovered Brian Moser Was The NHI Killer
Harry Stole Brian's File After Connecting Him To The First Two Murders
After finding out that Paul Petrie was murdered, Harry and Maria went back to the Tampa police department to start combing through his list of clients. Eventually, Harry came across the file of Brian Moser, the son of the criminal informant Laura Moser, who was Harry's secret lover and Dexter's mother. After getting Maria to go for coffee, Harry examined Brian's file and deduced that he was the NHI Killer. The first of the NHI victims worked as a nurse at the mental hospital Brian was institutionalized at, and his list of violent tendencies made him a perfect match.

Dexter: Original Sin Season 1 Episode 6 Makes One Of The Wildest Original Villain Return Theories More Likely
One of the best serial killers from the original Dexter may have appeared in Original Sin, and episode 6 made the theory even more plausible.
Even though Harry cracked the NHI Killer case wide open, he didn't share his discovery with Maria. In fact, he tried to hide Brian's file in his own bag, evidently trying to cover up Brian's involvement with the crime entirely. Part of the reason Harry tried to cover for Brian is that his arrest would have unearthed many of Harry's darkest secrets. Harry has been trying to hide Dexter's origins from him all season, and arresting Brian would expose everything in an instant. Harry likely also feels some level of guilt for making Brian a murderer, as Petrie's file specifically mentioned Harry several times.
6 Hector Estrada's Men Kidnapped Laura & Her Kids After Seeing Her Talk To Harry
Estrada's Men Invaded Laura's Home & Took Her, Brian, & Dexter To A Shipping Container
After seeing Brian Moser's file, Harry had another flashback to one of the last times he saw Brian as a child. Harry and Laura (Brittany Allen) met in a park to discuss what drug kingpin Hector Estrada had told her in the previous episode. Laura explained that Estrada wanted her to get an up-close look at his drug operation, and had arranged for her to organize a shipment at the shipping yard. Unfortunately, while they were meeting, one of Estrada's men was surveiling Laura and saw her meet with Harry, a known narcotics detective.

Dexter: Original Sin Makes Laura Moser’s Death Even More Brutal After 19 Years
The backstory of Laura Moser's death was already extremely tragic in Dexter, but Original Sin makes it even more brutal through Harry's flashbacks.
Once Estrada knew for sure that Laura was working with the police, he acted swiftly. While Laura was having her fingernails painted different colors by Brian, a group of Estrada's men broke into their home. After a struggle, they were able to subdue Laura, Brian, and Dexter, and when Bobby and Harry got to the house, there was no sign of them. Fans of the original Dexter will know how that abduction plays out, and know that Harry won't find Laura until it's too late.
5 Dexter Discovered Gio Was Engaged & Deb Found Out He Was Smuggling Something
Gio Was Lying To Deb About Their Relationship & About His Shady Work
After Harry told him to stop investigating Captain Spencer, Dexter went back on the hunt for Deb. He eventually found Gio's apartment, but when he got there, a woman answered. She explained that she was Gio's fiancée, and that Deb was just one of many women that Gio would seduce to entertain himself with. The fiancée explained to Dexter that she was also cheating on him, however, so their strange relationship worked somehow. Afterwards, Dexter borrowed her phone so he could call Camilla and finally take her up on the offer to borrow her boat.

Dexter: Original Sin Revives The Most Tired Debra Morgan Trend From The Original Series
The Dexter prequel series Dexter: Original Sin repeats a familiar yet tired trend of the original series involving Deb and her awful boyfriends.
At the same time, Deb started to find the cracks in Gio's perfect facade on her own. While they were having dinner, Deb excused herself to grab her coat from Gio's boat. While she was on board, she found several crates hidden underneath the seats, and Gio told her that he thought she would be a "good girl" and not ask questions about his work. Gio was likely smuggling drugs, based on the fact that he had given Deb cocaine earlier and led quite a lavish lifestyle, and he kicked Deb off the boat, stranding her in Bimini without a way home.
4 Deb & Dexter Had A Heart To Heart On Camilla's Boat & He Found His New Burial Ground
Dexter Told Deb That He Understood Her, & He Realized That The Ocean Is A Great Dump Site
Though Deb was stranded, Dexter luckily came to her rescue. Thanks to Camilla's boat, the Slice of Pie, Dexter was able to track Deb down to Bimini, and he found her shouting at Gio on the beach. After they shared what they learned about Gio, Dexter brought Debra home. While they were on the boat, Deb started to open up about how she felt Harry didn't care about her and how her life was unraveling, and Dexter surprisingly shared his own reservations about his relationship with Harry. It was actually a rather wholesome sibling moment, and Dexter even said he understood Deb.

Dexter: Original Sin Has A Great Opportunity To Fix One Of The Most Overlooked Plot Holes From The Original Show
One plot hole was in every season of Dexter, yet the show never fixed it. Now, Original Sin could completely solve it with one underrated character.
While the boat ride did help Dexter make progress in his relationship with Deb, it also helped him make progress as a serial killer. At one point, Deb threw the diamond bracelet Gio had given her overboard. When she asked if there was any way to get it back, Dexter told her that once something was in the sea, it was lost forever. That moment clearly gave Dexter the inspiration to start dumping his murder victims in the ocean, and it seems that it's only a matter of time until Original Sin solves Dexter's boat problem.
3 Captain Spencer Framed The Los Tigres For Nicky's Kidnapping & Started A Massive Shootout
Spencer Planted Nicky's Jersey At The Cartel's Hideout So He Could Kill Some Gangsters
Dexter got called into work after dropping Deb off at home, and he finally discovered what Spencer was up to with his mysterious meetup and plastic bag. Miami Metro received a tip that Nicky Spencer had been spotted at a known hideout of the Los Tigres cartel, so they assembled a SWAT team to raid the building. While they were there, they discovered the same jersey Spencer had taken off his son at the start of the episode, and Dexter later found the bag he saw Spencer give to the kid. It was clear that Spencer was trying to frame the Los Tigres for Nicky's kidnapping.
It seems that Spencer just wanted an excuse to gun down some cartel , and that it was his main motivation for kidnapping Nicky.
After Spencer started acting belligerent at the Los Tigres house, it became clear why he wanted to frame the cartels for Nicky's kidnapping. Spencer started instigating the cartel at the house by pointing his pistol in their face and screaming, and they eventually got their hidden guns and started a shootout with Miami Metro. It seems that Spencer just wanted an excuse to gun down some cartel , and that it was his main motivation for kidnapping Nicky. Now, however, Dexter is absolutely convinced that Spencer is behind the kidnappings, and he'll almost definitely get justice soon.
2 Maria Found Brian Moser's File Just Before They Heard That Bobby Watt Was Shot
Maria Discovered Harry Was Protecting Brian, But She Was Distracted By News Of Bobby's Shooting
After they left the Tampa police department, Harry and Maria stopped for dinner. While Harry was out of the car buying food, Maria decided to look through his case after he acted suspicious with the patient files. Maria discovered that Harry had stolen Brian Moser's file, but she only had time to look at his name before Harry got back to the car. Even though she didn't get much information, Maria is definitely suspicious of Harry and his connection to Brian. Luckily for Harry, she didn't have a chance to question him about it.

Dexter Season 8 Might Have Already Confirmed A Major Replacement Character’s Tragic Death In The Prequel Show
After 4 episodes, the Dexter prequel series Dexter: Original Sin may have already foreshadowed the eventual death of one of its brand new characters.
During the gunfight with the Los Tigres cartel, Harry's partner Bobby Watt (Reno Wilson) was shot in the neck. It was clearly a serious injury, as he had to be carried out of the crime scene on the back of a riot shield, and it was also serious enough for someone to call and tell Harry about. When Harry got the news on the car phone, it immediately took precedent over Brian Moser's file, and he and Maria sped back to Miami so that he could visit Bobby in the hospital. For now, Harry's secret is safe, but Bobby Watt's status looks much more grim.
