This article contains SPOILERS for Dexter: Original Sin's season 1 finale!It was expected that Dexter: Original Sin’s timeline kicking off 15 years before the main series, the biggest deaths, promotions, and twists regarding Miami Metro in that era are already generally known. For instance, it had already been established by the main series that Harry Morgan and his partner would die relatively soon after Dexter first starts killing.

Even in Dexter: Original Sin’s series premiere, Dexter’s voiceover indicates that Harry only lives about another year after his heart attack. Meanwhile, in the original series, it was revealed that Harry’s partner at Miami Metro was killed shortly before his own demise, with Dexter hunting down and dismembering the killer. Therefore, it was expected that Bobby and Harry would both die before Dexter: Original Sin season 1’s ending. Bobby’s gunshot wound made that even more likely, but the season ultimately concluded with both still alive. As such, there’s no opening for a new Miami Metro detective to arrive quite yet.

It Wouldn't Make Sense To Hire Another Detective At Miami Metro Yet

Since both Bobby Watt and Harry Morgan’s deaths were expected to happen before Dexter: Original Sin season 2, it seemed like the show was opening up the door for a young James Doakes to finally the Miami Metro team. It made sense that James Doakes was absent from Original Sin season 1 given LaGuerta, who was his superior in the main series, had only just ed the team in episode 3. Plus, there wasn’t much room for him at Miami Metro with the force already including Harry, Bobby, LaGuerta, and Sanders as significant characters.

Another missing original character who is expected to be introduced in Dexter: Original Sin season 2 is Captain Thomas Matthews.

As such, Doakes’ introduction in Dexter: Original Sin was seemingly being saved for after Miami Metro lost both Bobby and Harry. With both still alive as the show heads into Dexter: Original Sin season 2, Doakes ing the series might not happen until even season 3. There’s no specific timeline given in the main series for when Doakes started working at Miami Metro, but it would be a big missed opportunity to not include him at all in the prequel series.

Harry's Death Happens A Year After The Series Premiere

While they both surprisingly survived season 1, Bobby Watt and Harry Morgan's deaths are inevitable for Original Sin season 2. It seems Original Sin season 1’s timeline spanned at least a few months, and it would be strange for the series to end season 2 without an entire year having ed since Dexter’s very first kill. Dexter: Original Sin is likely still savoring the show’s time with Harry being alive and giving more guidance to Dexter with the Code, but he won’t be gone forever after his demise.

After Harry’s death, Christian Slater is expected to return through Dexter’s visions, mirroring Michael C. Hall’s Dexter having visions of James Remar’s Harry throughout the main series. Still, Harry dying will be one of the prequel’s biggest overall plot moments, and will completely change the dynamics of the Morgans and Miami Metro. After delaying his inevitable death, Dexter: Original Sin season 2 will have to build up to Harry’s tragic demise while also hopefully setting up the arrival of familiar figures like James Doakes.
