Dexter: Resurrection may be set to see several original cast return for the new sequel series, but one Morgan family actor will not be among them. Following on from 2021’s New Blood, Resurrection is set to see Michael C. Hall reprise his role as the fan-favorite serial killer he first played for eight seasons between 2006 and 2013. Hall’s former co-stars David Zayas (Angel Batista) and James Remar (Harry Morgan) are also confirmed to be reprising their roles from the original series, while New Blood’s Jack Alcott will return as Dexter’s son, Harrison.

Speaking with People, original Debra Morgan star Jennifer Carpenter recently responded to questions about whether she too would be among the sequel’s returning cast . Suggesting that she “feel[s] like I've completed that box,” Carpenter revealed that she will not be returning to play Deb alongside her former Dexter co-stars for Resurrection. However, she remains proud of her work on the show and is glad that fans get to see the property continue. Check out her comments below:

I am pretty focused where I am, and I feel like I've completed that box. I'm proud of it. I hope that they're having a wonderful time. And I'm so happy for the fans to have more to chew on.

What Jennifer Carpenter’s Absence Means For Dexter: Resurrection

It Would Be Redundant For Both Harry & Deb To Appear

At this stage, many fans are already beginning to speculate which classic Dexter characters will return to the new show beyond those that have already been formally announced. With considerable interest in seeing other familiar faces return, such as Julia Stiles’ season 5 character Lumen Pierce, it is possible that the new show could seek to surprise viewers with many more faces from Dexter’s past.

What Jennifer Carpenter Has Done Since Dexter

Jennifer Carpenter has had moderate success in both the film and television industries since Showtime's Dexter came to an end back in 2013.

However, Carpenter’s assertion that she will not be among them probably comes as little surprise, especially given the way her character was used in Dexter: New Blood's story. Serving as a posthumous vision in much the same way that Remar’s Harry Morgan appeared to Dexter throughout the original show, it would seem superfluous for Hall’s character to now be seeing both characters. Moreover, the return of Harry is suggestive of Dexter’s full return to his homicidal ways, whereas his visions of Deb were more closely tied to his attempts to repress his darker urges.

Our Take On Dexter: Resurrection Moving On From Debra

Her Absence Could Mean Her Brother Is Ready To Fully Embrace His Dark enger

Many fans have taken the title of the latest Dexter sequel series as a sign that this new show will depict Hall’s titular killer fully embracing his Dark enger once more. With his period of self-imposed exile largely motivated by his guilt surrounding Deb’s death in the original series finale, Carpenter’s absence from the Dexter: Resurrection cast could potentially indicate that Dexter has since reconciled his misgivings and is now ready to fully embrace his homicidal instincts once again.
