While the sixth season of the Showtime original, scenes they didn't see coming.
Dexter Morgan's (played by Michael. C. Hall) twisted story was to be concluded with the eighth and final season, which had a lot of stories to tell. After Debra picked her brother over Maria LaGuerta, it was interesting to see how she would react after doing what she did. Without further ado, let's rank every episode from the final outing of the show, according to IMDb.
" The Monsters" (4.6)
The twelfth episode season 8 is about as bad of a finale as any series could ever dream of. It's pretty much the same old story from the last episode. Saxton has escaped and shot Debra, who is now in critical condition.
Dexter sends Hannah and Harrison to Argentina and tells them that he'll follow them there later. He then decides against it, throws Debra's body inside the sea where he has dumped dozens of bodies, and walks into a hurricane, only to get out of it unscathed.
"Goodbye Miami"(6.9)
The tenth episode of season 8 sees Dexter chasing Saxton with all his might, only to come up short. It's really a weak episode considering the different directions they could have taken this storyline. Unfortunately, it is as predictable as it gets.
While the cat and mouse chase is good, its climax left a lot to be desired. Everyone who knows Dexter seems to die in the series and that's the course of action the writers took in this episode too.
"Monkey In A Box" (7.2)
The penultimate episode of season 8 is so bad that there's little to no development from the ninth episode. Just imagine the penultimate episode of a series being filler.
Dexter chases Saxton, just like the previous episode. This time, he catches him, only to leave him alone, which the viewers cannot understand. The only reason Dexter didn't leave for Argentina with Hannah and Harrison was to kill Saxton, but he changed his mind, in the end.
"Make Your Own Kind Of Music" (7.4)
In the ninth episode of season 8, Vogel's personal life comes back to haunt her as one of her sons, Daniel, was a psychopath who faked his own death. Dexter figures out that he is, in fact, The Brain Surgeon.
Moreover, after this piece of business, Dexter plans to work on his personal life with Hannah and Harrison, as he considers moving away to Argentina. But Dexter doesn't always have his way, that's pretty much a given.
"Dress Code" (7.6)
In the seventh episode of season 8, Dexter and Debra wake up after being drugged by none other than the returning Hannah McKay. This prompts Dexter to find her again and he does that quite easily.
Hannah is living in what seems to be a luxurious yacht with her husband, Miles Castner. But that doesn't mean Dexter will leave her alone, especially after what she tried to pull off the last time she was free in Miami.
"A Little Reflection" (7.8)
In the sixth episode of season 8, Dexter is getting "Dexter" vibes from Zach Hamilton, because just like the titular serial killer, Zach also likes the sight of blood. This drives Dexter to follow the kid to Vogel before she explains why Zach has been seeing her.
Meanwhile, Matthews wants Angel to decide who is going to be Sergeant. Masuka is also still dealing with the revelation that he, in fact, has a daughter, which is very weird to think about.
"This Little Piggy" (7.9)
In the fifth episode of season 8, Vogel has to settle the differences between Dexter and Debra, as the latter seemingly cannot bear to hold the guilt of killing LaGuerta.
Dexter is unhappy, of course, because he doesn't want to die but Debra's emotions seem to be getting the better of her. Later, Vogel gets abducted by one of her previous patients, which sets Debra and Dexter on the run to find her before anything bad happens.
"Every Silver Lining…" (8.1)
In the second episode of season 8, Vogel reveals how she knows so much about Dexter. Turns out, she is the one who gave Harry the idea to direct Dexter's killer desires to the ones who deserve it.
Hence, the code came into existence. Also, Miami Metro keeps looking for the Brain Surgeon who seems peculiarly interested in Vogel. Also, while on an undercover mission, Debra decides to do something on her own.
"What's Eating Dexter Morgan" (8.1)
In the third episode of season 8, the Brain Surgeon is at work again, as he kills another two before sending pieces of their brains to Vogel, suggesting that he knows about Dexter and her.
Elsewhere, Dexter tries to bring Debra back from punishing herself; however, she goes to Quinn to confess that she is the reason why LaGuerta is dead. Dexter and Vogel manage the situation, somehow.
"Scar Tissue" (8.1)
In the fourth episode of season 8, Vogel takes Debra to the crime scene where LaGuerta was killed, before telling Miami Metro's former Lieutenant to face her demons and make her peace with it.
Dexter is on a stalking spree, looking at various patients of Vogel's, striking off names of the people who could potentially be the Brain Surgeon. Also, Quinn es the Sergeant's exam and gets into a bar fight while celebrating.
