released the original Diablo 1 via GOG.com last year for those who really want to experience where it all began.
The Darkening of Tristram event is one of the many activities Diablo 3 players can do in the game, especially for those who have beaten the main campaign, which also include grinding rifts and ing a season by creating a seasonal character. The latest season of Diablo 3, Season 21, is called the Trials of Tempests which introduces a unique seasonal ability for players as well as adds new sets of armor and cosmetic rewards for players to collect.
Blizzard Entertainment announced the return of the Darkening of Tristram on the game’s official website. According to the announcement, players will be able to travel back in time to “Tristram’s past” via a portal they can discover through the game’s Adventure Mode. Once players access the portal, the visuals of the game will change to resemble Diablo 1 and players can start exploring the Tristam of the past. This time around, the first part of the Darkening of Tristram event will begin on December 31, 2020, but the actual portal will only open on January 3, 2021. The event will run until January 31, 2021.
Apart from the gear that players will be able to collect throughout the 16 levels of the event dungeon, including several iconic items from Diablo 1, including the King's Sword of Haste and the Archangel's Staff of Apocalypse, players will also be able to complete activities to earn unique transmogrification effects, achievements, portraits, pets, and more during their time with the event. Some of the special rewards include a Red Soul Shard head transmog, a Butcher pet, the classic Diablo 1 resource bar frame, and a whole lot more.
It’s pretty surprising how Blizzard has been able to maintain its content updates and events for Diablo 3 all these years, given that it was released way back in 2012. Events like the Darkening of Tristram can at least give big Diablo fans something to keep them busy and entertained while they wait for the release of the much-awaited Diablo 4, which Blizzard recently updated players on by showing off some of the features they can expect when it's released.
