The original Digimon Adventure anime has been the face of this beloved franchise for more than two decades. The impact the first show had on the anime industry is undeniable, as its characters, story, and epic adventures continue to be celebrated by fans to this very day. As the years have ed, the lore of Adventure has continued to expand, with new entries being added.

Yet, after more than two decades of bringing joy to the world, it seems like it is time for Tai and his friends to say goodbye. After the release of the short video Digimon Adventure –BEYOND-, the director of the trailer, Hiroyuki Kakudo, shared a message explaining that no new content for the series is in production. Fans might want to prepare for the original Digimon and their human partners to go away for longer than they are used to.

Digimon Adventure -BEYOND- Brings the Original Series to an End

The Franchise No Longer Feels the Need To Work on the Story

On March 20, 2025, a short video titled Digimon Adventure –BEYOND- was released to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the original anime. The video shows Matt, Tai, and Izzy traveling to America to find a new DigiDestined, an unnamed kid who has not met his partner yet. As they drive and talk about their lives, they are suddenly attacked by a Crowmon, forcing the older boys to stop the car and fight. The battle is never revealed, as the scene shifts to show the future of the other original DigiDestined.

They can be seen working, studying, and going on missions to the Digital World, making references to the final episode of the Adventure 02 anime. It is an emotional video that caused more than one fan to tear up, as it reminded them of the great moments the series has brought to life. Shortly after, a message from the director, Kakudo, was released, translated by @RavelMonte on X. The note explained a few details necessary to understand this short but significant homage. Nonetheless, what caught most fans’ attention was the man’s words about the Adventure story.

Kakudo explained that after the release of –BEYOND-, there are no plans for another animated project related to the original series. The short video was planned to be the last entry in the Adventure lore, as the team feels they have done everything they can with the series. If his words are true, this might mean that the era of what many claim to be the best series in the franchise has finally come to an end. It is time for Digimon to focus on new projects away from Tai and his friends.

–BEYOND-’s Story Is Still Not Over

The Background Behind the Video Will Be Released in Text Form

Besides the news about Adventure’s story coming to an end with –BEYOND-, Kakudo also explained why the story is so difficult for fans to understand. The director stated that the celebratory short video becomes akin to a trailer right after the arrival of Crowmon to promote a still unreleased text. This exciting final entry will not only explain the background behind Tai and Matt’s trip to America but will also give more context about the scenes with the other DigiDestined seen in the trailer. Moments like Kari battling with darkness or Mimi’s quest will become clear to fans.

The director did not explain when or how this story would be released, but he did ask fans to be ready for when it does. With the release of this text, the adventure of Tai, his friends, and the original Digimon team will be officially over. Nevertheless, Kakudo’s message did leave the door open for this decision to be changed in the future, as his words did not hold any finality to them. While the team behind the series might feel like there is nothing more to do with Adventure, this could change at any point.

Digimon Will Focus On a New Era

Beatbreak Will Mark a New Beginning for the Franchise

Alongside the release of –BEYOND-, the Digimon franchise also revealed that a new anime known as Beatbreak is already in production. The series, which is set to come out in October 2025, seems to be trying to distance itself from the original and its success. One promotional image for this anime was released, demonstrating that the Digimon franchise is heading down a darker path. Beatbreak will mark the beginning of a new era, one that will try not to rely on Adventure’s popularity and characters.
