In 2018, Netflix released a brand new animated series from Matt Groening, the fairy tale adventure, Futurama incorporated his trademark animation style as the series follows a zany cast of characters who get into constant wacky misadventures.
The plot of Disenchantment moves at a break-neck pace, with developments occurring throughout each part of the story. With the Part 4, fans of the show have been speculating on where each main character will end up following their dire situations at the end of Part 3, and the trailer for Part 4 is packed with exciting revelations.
Intense Dream Sequences
As a series, Disenchantment is known for its dream sequences. In the Part 4 trailer, a shot of Bean, presumably in the halls of Dreamland Castle, sees her being accosted by some familiar faces- including the Arch Druidess, Alva Gunderson, and Cloyd.
While it is unconfirmed whether this is a dream sequence or not, it can be assumed as it would be unlikely for these characters to be in the same scene in this odd scenario. Perhaps an element of this season is Bean reflecting on the villains of her past she has defeated, which could help her in her present battle.
The Gnomes Are Back
Fans of the series are eager to discover the fate of Elfo, as he is often considered the best Disenchantment character. At the end of Part 3, he was taken by a group of ogres for an unknown, and potentially fatal, reason. A shot in the trailer shows the half-elf surrounded by Ogres and Gnomes.
While this may seem fairly inconsequential as not much appears to be happening in this shot, it is surprising to see the gnomes, who have not been featured in the show since the first episode. The series is known for visual gags and elements that return in later seasons, so perhaps the Ogre/Gnome war from the first episode will come back into play.
The Elves Are Planning An Uprising
It appears from the trailer that the main plot of Part 4 revolves around the revelation from the end of Part 3: Dreamland is the long-lost home of the Elves. One scene sees King Rulo holding a meeting with a group of Elves, informing them of the news.
In addition to this, another shot of the trailer sees the Elves cornering Bean and forcing her to flee. What is more interesting, though, is that Dreamland appears to be in ruins, which is potentially a result of their uprising. With Bean using her newfound powers against them, it is possible that Bean will be capable of taking back her kingdom.
Luci Is Back
Disenchantment's Part 3 saw Dagmar committing the worst act thus far by dragging Bean to Hell for a nefarious purpose, and in the midst of this, the beloved character Luci was decapitated by an elevator when trying to save Bean. It was truly a horrific moment, the weight of which was felt by fans.
Perhaps disappointingly, the trailer for Part 4 reveals that Luci comes back to life; however, considering the series' precedent for not taking death too seriously, it could be seen coming. As Luci is seen alive but with his body in two pieces, it is possible that his soul returns from Heaven, yet Bean must figure out how to get him back together in one piece.
Zøg Becomes A Monk
While it is predominantly a funny and lighthearted series, one of the highlights of Disenchantment is its ability to provide heartfelt, dramatic moments. In Part 3, Zøg's mental state is depicted with a gravitas that is unexpected for an animated comedy.
Zøg's farewell at the end of the previous season is an emotional plot development for both Zøg and Bean, and the Part 4 trailer seemingly confirms that Zøg will return to his former self as he is seen back in Dreamland. A funny scene in the trailer sees Zøg being instructed by a monk, suggesting that this may be what helps him.
People Imprisoned - But By Whom?
While Disenchantment is rated fairly poorly amongst critics, the series is beloved, not solely for its engaging central figures but also its host of wacky side characters. Some of the funniest moments in the series come from random civilians commenting on the events that are unfolding.
A shot in the trailer sees several civilians (presumably) imprisoned in an unknown location. However, the characters are looking into the Oracle Fire, an item that was once in the possession of Cloyd and Becky in Maru. Disenchantment has yet to return to Maru since Part 2, so this could be confirmation of a revisit to the location - perhaps under the rule of the tyrannical Dagmar.
Mora Is Back
Part 3 of Disenchantment was criticized for its focus on plot development over humor, but despite this, the introduction of the mermaid, Mora, is something that many enjoyed. In the trailer, it appears that Mora is back, but it is unclear if it is just in a dream.
Given that Mora tells Bean to "wake up," it can be presumed that Mora returns in a dream capacity, at least in this particular scene. However, it would be an interesting development for Bean's character if she were to return as the object of Bean's affections, as Bean undoubtedly deserves happiness after the constant trials and tribulations that she goes through.
Bean Tries To Find Allies
A confirmed element of Part 4 of Disenchantment is the Elves deciding to reclaim Dreamland as their rightful home. However, how each character responds to this has yet to be revealed. It appears that Bean attempts to find allies in the Trøgs, seeking their assistance in reclaiming the throne.
From the nature of the shot, which sees Elfo trapped on a stone slab and Bean, Luci, and Elfo ultimately flying away, it can be presumed that the Trøgs may not assist the trio in their quest. However, the Trøgs are known to be loyal to Bean, Luci, and Elfo as they helped in the battle against the Ogres, and they consider them to be their saviors.
Zøg Reunites With Ursula
Fans of the series have had high hopes for Disenchantment Part 4, but prior to the release of the trailer, it is arguable that few expected the return of Ursula, a Forest Selkie with whom Zøg is infatuated for a brief period. A shot in the trailer showcases Zøg riding Ursula in bear form, presumably running towards something.
Given that the two characters appear determined to achieve something, it is possible that Zøg recruits Ursula's help in the Elf uprising. A brief, blink-and-you-will-miss-it moment late in the trailer shows a small bear leaping from a tree towards Zøg. Given that Zøg and Ursula's short pairing was romantic in nature, there is potential for this bear to be their child. There were plenty of things fans hoped would happen in Season 3 that ended up coming to fruition, so only time will tell what will come of this storyline.
Elfo Fights In An Arena
One of the biggest cliffhangers of Part 3 of Disenchantment was Elfo's uncertain fate. When an army of Ogres arrives at Dreamland and demands to take Elfo with them, Bean is entirely reluctant to do it, yet Elfo ultimately sacrifices himself for his friends and the kingdom by giving himself up.
The trailer for Part 4 does appear to reveal that Elfo escapes the clutches of the Ogres, but how he succeeds in doing so is unclear. A brief shot depicts Elfo in battle with an Ogre as spectators, including Elfo's father, watch on. Also in attendance is the Ogre Queen, whose previous appearance saw her being intrigued by the mention of Elfo's name. The full parentage of the half-elf has been one of the series' biggest questions, but it appears that Part 4 will finally provide some answers.
