Disney Dreamlight Valley’s latest expansion, The Storybook Vale, is out. With it comes a whole new world to explore, new characters to unlock, and new quests to sink hours into. Merida is one of five new characters to meet and befriend in Storybook Vale.
Merida is a character many fans have been waiting for, and now she’s finally here. However, before Disney fans can meet the Scottish lass and make her a member of their community, they must unlock her and complete a series of quests.
How to Unlock Merida
Head To Storybook Vale Via The Stardust Port
To unlock Merida in Disney Dreamlight Valley, you’ll need to visit Storybook Vale. Before you can access this new land and unlock the Brave protagonist, there are a few criteria you must meet, including:
- Have both expansion packs (A Rift in Time and Storybook Vale) installed
- Complete the quest from Merlin, “A Port of Many Worlds”
- Head to Storybook Vale via the Stardust Port
Upon reaching Storybook Vale from the Stardust Port, go up the stairs directly ahead until eventually reaching a platform where a redheaded woman awaits, trapped by Inkies. The woman is none other than Merida. Interact with the Inkies to remove them and then speak to Merida. So begins Storybook Vale's initial questline.
How To Start Merida's Friendship Quests
Welcome To Storybook Vale
Once introductions are out of the way, Merida will request that you follow her into the Library of Lore. Follow Merida up a set of stairs and into the library. Talk to Merida again. She’ll insist on you talking to The Lorekeeper. The only problem is that there is no one else there besides a giant book. Approach the giant book and speak to it.
You’ll learn that the giant book is the Lorekeeper of Storybook Vale. She’ll explain that you need to find a net, the latest tool in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

Which Disney Dreamlight Valley Characters Are Being Teased For 2025?
Disney Dreamlight Valley isn’t showing any signs of slowing down in 2025, with a number of free updates already teasing new characters.
Unfortunately, she can’t tell you how to find it as she grows too ill and spits out Snippets – flying birds that are the last of the Lorekeeper’s magic. Merida explains that you must catch all the Snippets and return them to the Lorekeeper. To do that, you’ll need the Royal Net.
To find the Royal Net, you must first upgrade your pickaxe. Merida explains she has a potion in her bag that can upgrade your pickaxe. So, it’s time to find her bag. Find the bag and open it to take the contents from inside. You’ll now have the Pickaxe Potion, a Sour Berry Pie, and a Scottish Porridge.
Open your inventory, navigate to the Pickaxe Potion, and use it to upgrade your pickaxe. Now, it’s time to find the Royal Net. There’s a puzzle in the middle of the Library of Lore, along with two mechanics you can interact with to change the puzzle’s alignment to make the bottom pieces fit correctly.
Once they are lined up, the middle will pop up and reveal Disney Dreamlight Valley’s Royal Net. Take the Royal Net and learn how to catch Snippets from the screen that pops up. For PC s, it’s as simple as hitting the space bar when close to the Snippets.
You won’t be able to catch Snippets that are too high in the air.
Next, equip the Royal Net and use it to catch four Snippets in the main hall of the Library of Lore. Once you’ve caught them, return to Merida and learn you’ll need to catch even more Snippets to restore The Lorekeeper. To do so, you’ll have to unlock two doors.
You can head to either the door on the right or the left. I chose the one on the right first. Step up to the wheel next to the door and use your Royal Net to unlock and open the door. Head into the room and up the stairs, clearing any Inkies in your path.
Collect the Snippets from inside this wing, then head out to the other wing to do the same. Each wing will have three to collect. Once collected, return to Merida.
Then, talk to The Lorekeeper and unlock the "Once Upon A Time In The Storybook Vale" story to continue. Now, you’ll need to reorder the stories. Once the story is completed, The Lorekeeper will tell you about the tale. Go and talk to Merida afterward. She’ll leave you to explore, and tells you to find her when you’re done.
A New Chapter
Once you’re done exploring, head out of the library and to the Well where Merida is waiting. Talk to her again. You’ll learn you need to gather some Storybook Magic to remove the bigger Inkies. Head into your Dreamlight Storybook Duties to see how you can gather some Storybook Magic. Once you’ve collected 500, you can unlock the area known as the Bind.
The Bind is where you’ll find your Storybook Vale home in Disney Dreamlight Valley. Head down the steps and talk to Merida again. Now you’ll need to collect five Snippets and remove 15 Inkies. Once completed, it’s back to Merida.
Merida will then ask you to speak with Scrooge McDuck and Goofy. Complete their quests by mining 10 gems and minerals and catching three fish. Return to Scrooge McDuck and Goofy, talk to them, and then interact with their respective signs to restore their shops where you can buy clothes and furniture from Scrooge or crops from Goofy.
Once you finish that, you’ll speak to Merida again to go on yet another quest to find a hidden room underneath a nearby bridge. Complete this quest by following Merida, opening the door underneath the bridge, searching for clues, and opening a secret bookcase door. This will restore the fountains and finally give you access to placing Merida’s home, thus fully unlocking her so that you can continue her friendship quests in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
