dual-ink cards, a new mechanic to the Disney-themed game. Every ink type in Disney Lorcana has a different color and typically has similar powers and synergies with each other. Every Disney Lorcana deck is limited to two ink-types, which has a major impact on their deck's playstyle. While many players assumed that dual-ink cards could be inserted into a deck containing one of the ink colors, that's not the case.

According to Disney Lorcana's website, dual-ink cards may only be included in a deck if that deck uses both ink colors. Per the announcement, this allows for cards with game effects that would otherwise never be on the same card, such as the Reckless and Resist keywords. Other cards have multiple effects that combine two different card archetypes. For example, "Restoring The Heart" heals 3 damage from a character or location and allows players to draw a card, combining common Amber and Sapphire card abilities.

The New Card Types Push Players Towards Using Certain Decks

The new dual-ink card rules morph Disney Lorcana's entire metagame in an unexpected way. Instead of providing splashes of other ink abilities into existing decks, the new rules encourage very specific deck builds and archetypes. Players gain access to more powerful cards in Disney Lorcana but with the trade-off of using certain kinds of color combinations that aren't very prevalent in the game. This could hypothetically push the deck towards a bigger diversity of deck types, especially as Disney Lorcana has largely been dominated by a few specific kinds of decks.

Disney Lorcana is releasing its seventh set, Archazia's Island this spring. Here is when the new cards are available and what's included in the set.

Of course, it's also possible that the dual-ink cards simply make the best decks even stronger. Previewed cards include examples of Amethyst/Ruby and Amber/Steel, the latter of which slots in perfectly with the already popular "Steelsong" deck archetype focused on playing powerful song cards. We'll have to wait and see until the full set is released, but some of these cards may redefine the game's foreseeable future.

Our Take: An Interesting Gamble For Disney Lorcana

Dual-Ink Cards Represent One Of The First Real Power Creeps In Card Game

Beast from Archazia's Island Set

Dual-ink cards look to be one of the first true examples of power creep in Disney Lorcana, as several cards simply look too good not to include. It will be fascinating to see some of these new cards disrupt the Disney Lorcana meta, especially as there are likely even more powerful cards on the way. One major question is whether Disney Lorcana will continue to bring in dual-ink cards in future sets, or if this is a card type that will only be explored in the new Archazia's Island set. Either way, Disney Lorcana just got a major dose of new life.
