The second set of Disney Lorcana cards, Rise of the Floodborn, features a host of new characters, as well as some re-imagined versions of characters included in The First Chapter. It's an impressive addition to the first set, and the Illumineer's Trove for Rise of the Floodborn is an excellent way to start collecting these new cards. As its name suggests, the Illumineer's Trove is packed with items for the TCG, including eight booster packs.
Releasing officially on December 1, 2023, two new starter decks available with pre-made singe-player decks of either Amber and Sapphire cards or Amethyst and Steel.
Rise of the Floodborn Illumineer's Trove Contents Review
The Illumineer's Trove box actually comes inside of a protective outer box that features Rise of the Floodborn artwork on the front and a list of the box's contents on the back. The Illumineer's Trove itself is made of fairly dense cardboard that's perfect for holding damage tokens, cards, and more. I keep extra decks and duplicates for collecting inside my The First Chapter box, and I'm sure I'll be doing the same thing for Rise of the Floodborn. Because of the artwork on the lid and sides, the box also looks great on a desk or bookshelf, which is an added bonus.
Most of what's included in Rise of the Floodborn's Illumineer's Trove is great. The player's guide booklet is of excellent quality, and it serves as a great way to see all the cards in the set, get tips on great card combos, and read up on the latest Disney Lorcana story. The booster packs (and the cards inside them) are also high quality. The cardboard damage tokens included in the box are nice, but the deck boxes are once again disappointing. There are two deck boxes included here - one featuring the artwork of Cinderella, Stouthearted, and the other featuring artwork of Raya, Warrior of Kumandra.

Every Disney Lorcana: Rise Of The Floodborn Enchanted Card (& How Much They're Worth)
Enchanted cards are the cream of the crop in Disney Lorcana, and Rise of the Floodborn introduces a whole new batch of serious power players.
The issue with the Illumineer's Trove deck boxes is that they must be bent to form their shape, and even after a while, the shape just isn't quite where it should be. Because of the cardboard folds, there's also a chance the cards might get scratched up. Collectors may especially want to avoid putting their cards in these deck boxes. For what it's worth, the deck boxes do hold the cards I use for playing, but I have them sleeved. Regardless, compared to deck boxes included in other TCGs sets (Pokémon's Boxes come to mind), the ones in the Illumineer's Trove for Disney Lorcana are a bit of a letdown - and they don't feel up to the same quality of everything else in the Trove.
Rise of the Floodborn Cards Overview
The cards in Rise of the Floodborn are impressive, both in how they add to the current competitive side of the TCG and in of collecting. This second set of cards feels perfectly geared toward competitors, with new cards working on current decks or on new ones. The player's guide booklet once again highlights cards and combos that can be advantageous. For instance, action cards like Hypnotize and item cards like Maurice's Workshop can be used strategically, while card combos like Beast - Relentless and Robin Hood - Capable Fighter work for questing, gathering Lore, and causing damage to opponents.
For those only interested in collecting, Disney Lorcana: Rise of the Floodborn still has plenty to offer. The artwork on these new cards is astounding, and those showing off re-imagined versions of classic characters are definitely highlights. Personal standouts include Winnie The Pooh, Hunny Wizard, by John Loren; Basil, Great Mouse Detective, by Bill Robinson; and Cinderella, Stouthearted, by Grace Tran - but there are countless cards in Rise of the Floodborn with art that I adore. Too many to list here.
Illumineer's Trove Final Thoughts
The main takeaway here is that Disney Lorcana has released a set just as impressive as The First Chapter, and one that somehow appeals to collectors and competitors in equal measure. The eight booster packs in the Illumineer's Trove are a fun way to start deckbuilding or collecting, and just like with The First Chapter, there's concept art cards to gather - these four are focused on creating concept art of Minnie Mouse, Wide-Eyed Diver, by Adam Fenton.
For anyone who missed out on the first set, Rise of the Floodborn can also work as an entry point to the TCG, although the two Starter Decks may be the best place to start for complete newcomers, since they include a pre-made deck already. The Illumineer's Trove is great, though, and as primarily a collector, I adored the artwork on display and had a ton of fun opening the booster packs to see what was inside. The Illumineer's Trove for Disney Lorcana: Rise of the Floodborn is available now for $49.99.
