There are great Disney sidekicks in every Disney movie. In fact, many would argue they are actually the best part of the films. From cute ones to tough ones to cheerful ones, sneaky ones, and more... the great range of side-kicks means they're perfect to pair with the signs of the zodiac.
Behind every great lead there lives a great Disney sidekick, but which one represents your sign of the zodiac?
Updated on November 18th, 2022 by Amanda Bruce: A sidekick can make or break a Disney animated movie. If the audience doesn’t like the sidekick, the princess or prince in the center of the story might not earn the trust of the audience either. Not every sidekick has to have exactly the same personality, but there is quite literally a sidekick for everyone. Disney fans can relive their favorite stories and revisit their favorite sidekicks as many times as they want now that nearly the entire Disney animated catalog is available to stream on Disney Plus.
Aries: Mushu And Stitch
The powerful, the pleasurable, the indestructible Mushu definitely represents the Aries. For one, a dra-gon, not Liz-ard, has to be a fire sign, fire-breathing is half the point! But beyond this, Mushu has the same fiery spirit as Aries, good and bad. Mushu is courageous, enthusiastic, and ionate, but he can be impatient and short-tempered. When push comes to shove though, he's ready to take charge. All in all, he's the perfect Aries representative.
Mushu and Stitch are very similar, which is why it makes sense that both of these sidekicks would be Aries. Stitch is very much the kind of friend who dives headfirst into a situation without thinking about it, and that’s what often happens with Aries having an act-first-think-later approach to life. Stitch is an incredibly loyal friend to Lilo, but a lot of his actions end up getting the two of them into trouble simply because he acts on instinct.
Taurus: Khan
Taurus are the stablest sign in the zodiac, and Khan is Mulan's trusty steed. Like this sign, Khan never abandons Mulan and always keeps an eye out for her when trouble might be about.
He's a reliable horse, and incredibly patient...unless Mushu presses his buttons, in which case he can become more than a little stubborn. Khan is definitely the representative of this earth sign.
Gemini: Iago And Olaf
Iago is one fast-squawking, non-stop talking bird, making him kindred to Gemini. Gemini is incredibly expressive and one of the smartest signs out there, they love to be sociable, and can't get enough of the sound of their own voice, sometimes are also indecisive and overly anxious. (Though Iago does defect from his master Jafar, so it does make sense that he's a little afraid.) All in all, Iago matches the effervescent spirit of the air sign Gemini, but he also alludes to their darker side, showcasing a few their insecurities.
While Iago represents the more adaptive nature of a Gemini, Olaf represents the more sociable aspects of the sign. Frozen movie, Olaf becomes one of his trusted friends just as Olaf is for Anna and Elsa.
Cancer: Phil
Cancers are known for being stubborn and there is no one as ornery as good old Philoctetes. He's determined to train a hero, and nothing will stand in his way. Cancers can also have a habit of being 'My way or the highway,' and that is Phil through and through.
This satyr knows who he is and what he expects, and any wandering heroes had better rise to the occasion. Cancers will see themselves in him.
Leo: Raja
Raja might not be a lion, but he's definitely one big cat. While one big cat is not like the other, Raja happens to embody the spirit of Leo. He's cheerful, cuddly, and protective.
Although he can be fierce, he prefers to lie in the garden with Jasmine and play. Leos are ionate but positive sorts and Raja is a great representative of their population.
Virgo: Grandmother Willow And Jiminy Cricket
Grandmother Willow is an ancient spirit housed in a Willow tree, so she must represent an earth sign, and she fits none better than Virgo. Virgos are maternal signs by nature, nurturers who caretake for all those around them, helping them down the right paths in life. They are kind, practical, and loyal, protectors of their charges, just exactly in the way that Grandmother Willow guides Pocahontas.
Doling out advice is very much in the nature of Virgo. It only makes sense then that Grandmother Willow isn’t the only Virgo among Disney sidekicks. Jiminy Cricket, who is the embodiment of a conscience for Pinocchio, is a lot like the living tree. He’s a little less enigmatic than Grandmother Willow, more straightforward with his advice, and offering up the puppet real plans. Pinocchio just doesn’t always take his advice.
Libra: Flit And Maximus
Libras are known for flitting through the air, just like, well, Flit. The hummingbird is a perfect representation of Libra's floating energy, always at the center of social situations and a little romantic. Additionally, Flit is a stickler for rules, which is exactly what just Libra needs in her Disney sidekick equivalent. Flit is both beautiful and a little high-strung, a true Libra.
Libras don’t always follow the rules, but they do have a strong sense of justice and fairness. That’s why Maximus and Flit, though they don’t initially appear to be the same, have a lot in common. Maximus begins his journey in Tangled as a horse who will stop at nothing to bring Flynn Rider in for his crimes. Maximus comes to realize that Flynn, despite his love for adventure and his loose interpretation of the law, isn’t a bad person, and he decides to help him and Rapunzel fight a greater evil.
Scorpio: Tinker Bell
Tinker Bell is well-positioned to represent Scorpio kind in Peter Pan. Like the scorpion sign, she is a little bit sneaky and gossipy, she likes her secrets and tricks, and can sometimes be too much of a secretive sneak.
But Tink is also brave, stubborn, and a real friend to those in her esteem. The ideal Scorpio.
Sagittarius: Pegasus And Pumba
Pegasus loves to spread his wings and fly, and he's always eager for the next adventure, just like a Sagittarius. Sagittarius' have a great wanderlust, and they always want to be discovering new things and people. That's why this winged horse is the perfect fit for them.
In addition to a sense of adventure, Sagittarius is also often seen as an optimist who loves to learn new things. While Timon might be the leader in the friendship between these two The Lion King pals, Pumba is certainly the more open-minded and willing to see the world through new eyes. He also tries to see the good in every situation, even the love between Simba and Nala that Timon fears will lead to the dissolution of their friendship.
Capricorn: Lumiere
Capricorns are much like Lumiere, they are disciplined, and great managers (of enchanted castles, perhaps?), but they can tend to be know-it-alls sometimes. (Which Lumiere definitely is.)
Despite this, they care a lot about their families, they love music and all things quality. Lumiere was born a Capricorn.
Aquarius: Sebastian
Sebastian is a great Aquarius--although the watery seeming sign is actually part of the air set, Sebastian fits the qualifications for both of these.
He's a bit uncompromising and can be aloof, but ultimately his heart is in the right place. He knows the value of a promise and does his best to solve the problems at hand.
Pisces: Flounder
Who better to be dreamy Pisces than Flounder. Flounder loves to dream along with Ariel, but sometimes he can be just a little bit of a scaredy-cat, preferring to stay in familiar environments that welcome him and are soothing to his nerves.
Flounder is a fish, after all, making him the perfect Pisces!
