Dungeons & Dragons has a glut of new subclasses coming out over the rest of 2025 and beyond. Wizards of the Coast recently released a new Unearthed Arcana playtest with eight new or revamped subclasses, all following a horror theme. The new playtest is the third batch of recent player-facing material released in recent months, with the majority tied to books set to be released in months. In total, there are 21 subclasses scheduled to come out over the next few months in at least three different products.
While Wizards of the Coast released 48 different subclasses for the 5e rules revisions via the 2024 Player's Handbook, releasing 21 additional subclasses is a lot to keep track of. Some of the subclasses are revamped versions of existing subclasses, but others are brand new. A summary of all the subclasses coming to Dungeons & Dragons over the next few months helps to lay out what the short-term future of D&D could look like.

21 Different Subclasses Released In Playtests
The new subclasses have been added over four different Unearthed Arcana playtests, most of which were released earlier in 2025. Playtest versions of all the subclasses are currently available on D&D Beyond on the website's Unearthed Arcana section. Keep in mind that, since this material is playtest material, there's no guarantee that any of these subclasses will appear in published D&D material.

The Forgotten Realms subclasses could generally be fitting additions to most D&D campaigns, while the Eberron additions will fit better in a technology-oriented setting than a standard medieval world. As for the horror subclasses, they should be perfect for campaigns like Curse of Strahd, but they should still be flexible enough to fit most campaigns that aren't focused exclusively on classic heroic fantasy.
When To Expect Playtest Subclass Releases
Eberron And Forgotten Realms Books Will Be Released This Year
So far, we know when the Eberron and Forgotten Realms material is coming. Eberron: Forge of the Artificer will be released on August 19, 2025, while the Forgotten Realms Player's Guide will be released on November 11, 2025. Both books will also feature other player-facing material, such as species rules, backgrounds, and new feats. The Forgotten Realms Player's Guide will also contain rules for Circle Casting, a way to give spells additional effects by casting them as part of a group.

Despite A Lack Of Baldur's Gate 3 DLC, Its Full D&D Potential Is Only Just Beginning
Baldur's Gate 3 has come a long way since its initial release, but a lack of DLC is doing little to slow down its potential for unique storytelling.
What we don't know is when the horror-themed subclasses will be released. Wizards has confirmed the launch of a "mystery" D&D product in October, which would be good timing for a Ravenloft release. However, three consecutive months of player-facing releases would be a lot, which is why a horror-themed book might be set for a 2026 release instead. Either way, it appears that we'll be getting a lot of new Dungeons & Dragons material over the next few months as D&D ramps up its new version of Fifth Edition.
