Summary

  • Doctor Doom's strategic strike to Logan's unprotected vertebrae proves his tactical genius, making him a lethal opponent against even the most dangerous foes in the Marvel Universe.

As one Marvel series revealed, any of his greatest foes.

A story from A+X #17– written by Gerry Duggan, with art by David Yardin – finds Doom trapped in a psychic illusion that pits him against Marvel’s heaviest hitters. And after dismantling The Wasp, Iron Man, and even the Hulk, Victor comes face to face with Logan.

Wolverine launches himself toward Doom, claws beared, only for the villain to swiftly decapitate him.

As Wolverine utters his trademark “Best There Is” line, Doom silences him permanently – severing his vocal cords and his spinal cord along with them. Despite this conflict’s illusory nature, it still reinforces Victor’s tactical genius against even the most dangerous X-Man.

Doctor Doom Knows The Exact Spot To Target In Order To Eliminate Wolverine

A+X #17 – Written By Gerry Duggan; Art By David Yardin, Cam Smith, Terry Pallot, Andres Mossa, & Clayton Cowles

A strike to the unprotected vertebrae is the perfect weak spot to take Logan down. After all, Wolverine doesn’t have adamantium ligaments.

Despite Doctor Doom’s considerable power, he rarely feels the need to physical violence, preferring to use his unparalleled genius to overcome his heroic foes. But against Wolverine’s adamantium skeleton is indestructible, a traditional attack would hardly benefit Doom. However, a strike to the unprotected vertebrae is the perfect weak spot to take Logan down. After all, Wolverine doesn’t have adamantium ligaments, and his ts are just as vulnerable as anyone else’s.

Fans have witnessed Wolverine decapitated before to varying degrees of success, but this still ultimately counts as a victory in favor of Doctor Doom. Even if Logan manages to stay alive despite missing a head, he’s severely incapacitated and out of the fight. Against someone like Wolverine, that’s really the best-case scenario for any normal villain. Yet Victor Von Doom is no ordinary villain, and for a menace as iconic as Doctor Doom, this maneuver would surely provide him ample time to discover a way to take down Logan permanently if he felt so inclined.

This violent interaction shows just how calculating Victor Von Doom truly is, and just how much of a threat he can be when he no longer holds back.

Doctor Doom's Casual Dispatching Of Wolverine Proves He Is Marvel's Top Villain

The True "Best There Is"

Wolverine may be "the Best There Is" but to Doctor Doom, he’s just another obstacle to overcome. While this isn’t Logan’s first beheading – and technically didn’t even happen – this violent interaction shows just how calculating Victor Von Doom truly is, and just how much of a threat he can be when he no longer holds back. Whether the Scion of Latveria will ever employ this strategy in the real world remains to be seen. However, one thing is clear: if Wolverine ever has to face off with Doctor Doom again, he needs to keep his head on a swivel.
