A new team of Doctor Doom! Later this summer, the Fall of X will upend the X-Men’s corner of the Marvel Universe, as the extremist organization Orchis unveil their endgame in a rapidly escalating war on mutants. As the dust settles, a new group of X-Men, loyal to Latveria and Doctor Doom, arrive on the scene in X-Men #29.

X-Men #29 will be written by Gerry Duggan with art and cover by Joshua Cassara. Marvel has remained mum on exact details about the team, including its hip. However, Cassara’s cover shows Kate 'Kitty' Pryde fighting alongside Wolverine and Ms. Marvel against Doctor Doom’s X-Men. Enjoy the solicitation for the issue and its official cover art.

For the past year, the anti-mutant hate organization Orchis has been consolidating its power - including a hostile takeover of Stark Industries, which gave birth to the frightening Stark Sentinels. Orchis' plan to rain hell down on the X-Men begins at this year’s Hellfire Gala, but fans already know it will scatter Krakoa's heroes across the globe - and Doctor Doom plans to keep up the heat. Now, it seems that Cyclops' team will face off against mutants chosen to supplant them, as Wolverine - who hasn't officially been part of the main X-Men team for years now - is pulled back into the fray.

Doctor Doom Is Hitting the X-Men at Their Weakest

Cassara’s cover to X-Men #29 raises as many questions as it answers. Both Ms. Marvel and Doom's electric mutant don't appear to be fighting anyone - does this mean Marvel is holding back the full cover, covering up of the still-to-be-announced new X-Men team? The detail even has fans speculating that Ms. Marvel (soon to be resurrected as a mutant) is actually fighting on Doom's side. Fans are also wondering which mutants make up Doom's X-Men, and what powers they bring to the table. The villains appear to have pseudo-elemental attacks, suggesting that even when assembling mutants, Doom may have subconsciously assembled his own Fantastic Four. Finally, why is Doom striking now? He's shown for Krakoa in the past and disdains anti-mutant prejudice, so why help Orchis drive the nail into mutantkind's coffin?

If nothing else, this team will be a tribute to Doctor Doom’s massive ego: Doctor Doom has seen that a change is coming to mutant affairs, and may simply want to rebuild mutantkind's future on the bedrock of his own nation. Whatever his motives, Doctor Doom’s forthcoming X-Men team just set up one of Fall of X’s greatest mysteries.
