From John Stamos (who previously starred in two renowned medical series — General Hospital and ER) to Shania Twain (one of the best-selling music artists of all time), the ABC show wastes no time incorporating famous guest stars. Most of the following celebrities, including Stamos, Chord Overstreet, and Kelsea Ballerini, can be seen in the Doctor Odyssey trailer.

By including impressive guest stars, Doctor Odyssey already has a leg up over other medical procedural shows like Grey's Anatomy and Chicago Med. Neither series utilized renowned actors, singers, and other celebrities while marketing their respective first seasons. Of course, Grey's Anatomy has featured numerous famous guest stars throughout its 20-plus season run, but most of them appeared in the show before gaining recognition (like Phillipa Soo's Hamilton costar Leslie Odom Jr.).

These celebrities can draw more eyes to the ABC medical drama, especially if they promote the show.

The additional marketing will undoubtedly boost Doctor Odyssey's ratings. Plus, not every announced guest star will appear in the pilot episode. As a result, people will have to continue tuning in to see some of their favorite actors and/or singers in the medical drama. It evidently pays off to have Ryan Murphy's pull in Hollywood as many are already talking about Doctor Odyssey a week before its premiere because of the show's ability to get impressive guest stars.
