Warning! SPOILERS about Doctor Odyssey season 1, episode 18 ahead.

Doctor Odyssey season 2 to focus more on a character who isn’t Max. Doctor Odyssey’s setting offered a satisfying collection of storylines through its guests changing every week and, generally, with every episode, but the medical team with Max at the helm was indubitably the focus. Not only did Doctor Odyssey start with Max’s arrival, but all his bonds with crew received attention, and even his family got to appear in Doctor Odyssey episode 15.

Although Max’s bond with Captain Massey was amply showcased in Doctor Odyssey season 1, it’s indisputable that the love triangle involving Max, Avery and Tristan had the most visibility. The trio’s bond was exceptionally compelling due to their being in lockstep when treating patients, but at odds in their private lives due to both Max and Tristan having feelings for Avery, who was as uncertain about her feelings as she was certain about her career. Doctor Odyssey season 1 ending with Avery and Max finally together and Avery departing for med school nonetheless offers a chance for a narrative pivot.

Doctor Odyssey Season 2 Should Focus On Tristan Instead Of Max

Tristan's Story In Doctor Odyssey Season 1 Was Extremely Compelling

Tristan in an episode of Doctor Odyssey, with a big smile

With Doctor Odyssey’s future remaining uncertain and season 2 not yet confirmed, its renewal happening shouldn’t be taken for granted, even if Doctor Odyssey season 1 had consistently good ratings (but not the highest for ABC). Still, were Doctor Odyssey season 2 to happen, it should put Tristan in the spotlight. Doctor Odyssey season 1 offered solely a glimpse of Tristan’s backstory, with his mother’s appearance in episode 3 only scratching the surface. More often than not, if the focus was on Tristan, it was for his love affairs.

The Biggest Argument For Doctor Odyssey's Season 2 Renewal Oddly Comes From A 16-Time Emmy-Winning Comedian

A renowned comedian hilariously pointed out Doctor Odyssey's biggest strengths, effectively making the best argument for its season 2 renewal.

However, Doctor Odyssey season 1 also showed that Tristan’s story could offer so much more. His struggles with alcohol were introduced relatively unexpectedly, with his laid-back attitude effectively covering how he rarely stopped drinking. With Doctor Odyssey season 1 putting Tristan on the road to recovery before letting him briefly relapse, focusing on him in season 2 would make a deeper understanding of what brought him there and how he could get better possible.

Avery’s story taking a step back due to her being far from the Odyssey would give Tristan’s story the perfect chance to be fully in the limelight for once.

Doctor Odyssey season 1’s ending allowed for Tristan, Max and Avery’s love triangle to end amicably, with Tristan even rooting for them. However, Avery choosing to go to med school inevitably means she won’t be part of the Odyssey crew anymore. Doctor Odyssey season 2 could still tell Avery’s story and focus on her and Max’s romantic relationship, but the tightest connection to the Odyssey would be Tristan’s. Avery’s story taking a step back due to her being far from the Odyssey would give Tristan’s story the perfect chance to be fully in the limelight for once.

What Focusing On Tristan Could Mean For Doctor Odyssey Season 2

Tristan's Sobriety & His New Approach On Life Could Be Explored

A bigger focus on Tristan in Doctor Odyssey season 2 could reveal more about his childhood, after season 1 already introduced his problematic relationship with his mother and tidbits of information, like his ission of having been part of the cheerleading team. With Doctor Odyssey season 1’s finale including the moment with Max when Tristan informed him of his new philosophy in life to “go where the love is,” his romance with Viv could be revived, especially considering they had broken up because Tristan wasn’t over Avery yet, but he itted to now being in Doctor Odyssey season 1’s finale.

Doctor Odyssey season 1 is now streaming in its entirety on Hulu.

Less attention on Max could also translate into Tristan’s alcohol addiction being further explored, with this even giving a bigger focus on other crew who were only secondary characters in Doctor Odyssey season 1, like Rosie. Finally, with Tristan and Max on the ship together without Avery, their bond could also be further delved into, as, when Avery seemed out of reach to both, they had developed a friendly banter that could have turned into a friendship had they not been vying for her affections. Were season 2 to happen, focusing on Tristan’s story more could better Doctor Odyssey.
