Warning! Spoilers for the Death of Doctor Strange #1 by Marvel Comics below

The Sorcerer Supreme is dead, and Doctor Strange's new replacement is... Doctor Strange? Yes, a past version of the Master of Mystic Arts has come to the main timeline following the demise of the current Doctor Strange. But, the question remains: is this version of the longtime Avenger here to stay? Or will someone else become the Sorcerer Supreme later in the comics?

In Marvel's main continuity, magic barrier surrounding the planet disappeared, leading from threats across the Multiverse to attacking. Meanwhile, the Avengers are expected to take on those evil-doers who emerged following Doctor Strange's death.

In The Death of Doctor Strange #1 by Jed Mckay, Lee Garbett, Antonio Fabela, and VC's Cory Petit, heroes and magic s across the Marvel Universe are shocked to learn about Doctor Strange's sudden death. However, as Baron Mordo, Wong, Doctor Voodoo, and Kaecelius argue about what to do next, a mysterious portal opens up in the Sanctum Santorum. Then, surprisingly, a Doctor Strange from the past arrives and reveals something much worse is coming if he has been released.

Death of Doctor Strange

A monologue from the deceased Doctor Strange reveals that the hero set up a contingency plan should be killed. When he was younger, Doctor Strange tried to channel Koschei the Deathless and made sure a past version of himself would emerge in the present timeline in the event of his death. This new (yet old) Doctor Strange tells his fellow magic s that the worst is yet to come while asking what years he's been brought to. It's seemingly the start of some sort of epic, magical war.

Thanks to a backup plan he created in the past, Doctor Strange's death was quickly remedied by the past version's arrival. Doctor Strange definitely was killed - but in true form, he's found a way to bring himself back. It's unclear whether the young version of Doctor Strange will continue as the Sorcerer Supreme or if the role will be given to someone else. Is there a more experienced magic- in the current timeline? Or will Strange take on the gig once again? The Death of Doctor Strange #1 is in comic book stores now.
