Warning: Spoilers ahead for Doctor Who season 14, episode 5, "Dot and Bubble."
Summary
- Lindy's Homeworld likely met its end due to a sentient Dot AI going rogue, creating monsters to attack the moon's inhabitants.
- Finetime's residents learn discriminatory behavior from the Homeworld, leading to prejudiced views within the society.
- The Dot AI may have turned violent due to the assumption that a discriminatory society wouldn't accept a sentient machine.
When the fate of Lindy's homeworld is revealed in Doctor Who, season 14, episode 5, "Dot and Bubble," it's not clear how the population of the planet met its end, but the episode does provide certain clues throughout. The planet, only ever referred to as "The Homeworld," seems to be home to a variety of incredibly wealthy individuals. The community of Finetime is based on the planet's moon, but the Doctor and Ruby barely manage to guide a number of the Finetime residents to safety.
"Dot and Bubble" introduces Callie Cooke as Lindy Pepper-Bean, with the actor serving as the temporary leader of the Doctor Who's Disney era to sideline Ncuti Gatwa's version of the Time Lord. Much of the lore surrounding the Homeworld and Finetime is contextual, but it is possible to glean plenty of information from the episode's events.

Lindy's Homeworld Was Destroyed By The Dot AI In Doctor Who's "Dot & Bubble"
The Dot goes rogue near the end of the episode
Finetime's residents spend their days encased in a digital bubble that's projected from an advanced piece of hardware known as a Dot. It allows Lindy and the other residents to remain in constant communication via social media. However, the link to Lindy's mother, Susan Twist's Penny Pepper-Bean, reveals that everyone on the Homeworld also uses the same social media platform. The Doctor realizes just in time that the Dots have become sentient, and this is proven by Lindy's Dot going rogue and trying to kill her. So, this is likely what happened to the planet of parents that Finetime orbits.
The connection between the monsters and the AI makes sense, explaining why the creatures go undetected by the Dots.
The Doctor's theory is that the monsters eating the unwitting citizens have been manufactured rather than occurring naturally. So, it's possible the sentient Dot AI had the beasts created due to its hatred for the moon's inhabitants, but not after the plan had proven to be a success on the Homeworld. The connection between the monsters and the AI makes sense, explaining why the creatures go undetected by the Dots. If those on the Homeworld are just as engrossed in social media as their children, wiping them out would be just as easy - even if it would take longer.
Doctor Who's "Dot & Bubble" Ending May Reveal Why The Dot AI Really Went Rogue
Finetime is a very prejudiced society
The shocking ending of "Dot and Bubble" reveals the racist views harbored by the residents of Finetime, which is likely a behavior they learned while growing up on the Homeworld. The Dot AI will have been aware of this prejudice, and therefore aware of the fact that such a discriminatory society would probably have looked down on a sentient machine. Therefore, the AI may have turned to violence due to the assumption that if it were to reveal its true nature, it wouldn't have been treated well - as suggested by the ending of Doctor Who season 14, episode 5.
