Warning: This article includes MAJOR SPOILERS for Doctor Who season 15, episode 3, "The Well"!

Rather than leaving it up to speculation, one small detail in sequel to the David Tennant episode “Midnight.” The Doctor is back on the planet Midnight, going up against the faceless entity.

While very little is known about the Midnight Monster in Doctor Who, “The Well” helped minutely expand the understanding of the creature. The twist ending made viewers speculate that more than one of them could exist. Luckily, one small, easily missed detail at the end of Doctor Who season 15, episode 3, “The Well,” confirms this theory.

The End Of “The Well” Seems To Confirm At Least Two Midnight Monsters Exist

The Lift Screen Reveals A Midnight Monster Is On The Lift

When Aliss and the two troopers leave ahead of the rest of the group, the lift screen shows four people inside, even though only three are present. That’s shown before the incident with Belinda and the Midnight Monster. Theoretically, this could just be a careless editing mistake that wasn’t fixed. However, it seems more likely that the detail is supposed to confirm one of the Midnight Monsters left on the lift with them. If that’s the case, then at least two of the monsters exist in Doctor Who. One leaves in the lift with Aliss and the two troopers, while the other is in the chamber with Belinda, the Doctor, and the other troopers.

Multiple Midnight Monsters Existing Makes Them A Much Scarier Doctor Who Villain

The Midnight Monsters Pose A Bigger Threat Now

The midnight monster hiding behind Aliss in Doctor Who

Even if there were only one Midnight Monster, the creature would be utterly terrifying. The monster could steal the Doctor’s voice and make them entirely helpless in “Midnight,” which is the most scared the Doctor has been. After attaching itself to them, it can discover unspoken details from the character’s mind, such as their true name. The Midnight Creature also plays psychological games with its victims in “Midnight.” In “The Well,” the Midnight Monster has the ability to drive a whole base of miners out of their minds, causing them to kill each other.

Even if the characters found a way to beat one Midnight Monster, like Shayna did with her death in Doctor Who’s “The Well,” others could take its place.

However, the fact that multiple exist means they're even scarier. All the questions increase exponentially when multiple monsters exist, but none of them are answered. It’s unclear whether they possess a collective consciousness, work independently, have different personalities and motives, etc.

The Fifteenth Doctor predicts the major twist in Doctor Who season 15, episode 3, fifteen minutes before the reveal, showing how clever he is.

Moreover, they won’t be so easily defeated. Even if the characters found a way to beat one Midnight Monster, like Shayna did with her death in Doctor Who’s “The Well,” others could take its place. With all this in mind, the Doctor Who villain could easily become a recurring villain, even if it’s years down the line, because of how terrifying and impactful they are.
