Several Easter eggs referencing past Doctor Who season 15, episode 2 surprised audiences once again by breaking the fourth wall when the Fifteenth Doctor and Belinda Chandra end up meeting three massive fans of the show.

Doctor Who season 15’s fans scene is a groundbreaking moment for the show, and there are loads of nods to the Doctor’s previous escapades littered in the background of the shots. From the Weeping Angels to the Daleks, it’s worth keeping your eyes peeled for each of the intriguing little references to Doctor Who in this scene from “Lux.”

13 Lizzie's "Don't Blink" Mug

Referencing Season 3's Weeping Angels Episode "Blink"

Out of the three mugs in the fan scene features a reference to “Blink,” one of Steven Moffat’s best Doctor Who episodes. In the mid-credits scene of “Lux,” Lizzie’s mug can be seen more clearly, and the words “Lizzie, Don’t Blink” can be seen sprawled across the cup’s surface.

Of course, Lizzie, Hassan, and Robyn all confirm that the introduction of the Weeping Angels is their favorite Doctor Who adventure, much to the Fifteenth Doctor’s dismay. However, considering what a popular episode of Doctor Who “Blink” is in the real world, this only makes sense.

Referencing The Famous Cybermen Design From The Classic Doctor Who Era

Lizzie also wears a T-shirt with a graphic of a Telos Cyberman. The Telos Cybermen are first introduced in the classic Doctor Who era Cybermen story “The Moonbase.” This version of the iconic villains features less on-screen than other iterations, but it’s great to see some appreciation for them.

Despite the Telos Cybermen sharing a very similar appearance to the Mondas Cybermen, whose most recent appearance is in the season 10 two-part finale, they are actually the second version of the Cybermen.

Referencing Doctor Who's Notable Intelligence Organization & The Doctor's (Sometimes) Former Employer

Doctor Who’s UNIT changes things up several times throughout the show, in of appearance, attitude, and purpose. However, Hassan’s hoodie gives a nod to classic era Doctor Who. The very first UNIT logo, which first appears in the 1968 serial “The Invasion,” is plastered across his chest, although it is hidden at times by his lengthy scarf.

While some of the of Doctor Who’s new UNIT team may not recognize this logo, Kate Stewart will, especially as her father was such a notable part of the organization at that time.

Referencing The Eye-Catching Appearance Of Tom Baker's Fourth Doctor

The most obvious Doctor Who reference in the fan scene is Hassan sporting the Fourth Doctor’s legendary scarf. Actor Tom Baker is famous for portraying the Fourth Doctor in Doctor Who’s classic era, but he really isn’t the Doctor without his incredibly long scarf. While there are many iconic clothing pieces worn by the Doctor, like Eleven’s tweed jacket or Five’s strange celery stick, there’s nothing quite like Four’s striped scarf.

Referencing Doctor Who's Favorite Robot Dog

While having a cup of tea with the Doctor and Belinda, there is an unexpected appearance of K9, whose image is printed on Hassan’s mug. However, it’s more than just a picture of the Doctor’s trusty robotic canine companion. In Doctor Who season 15, episode 2’s mid-credits scene, the other side of Hassan’s mug is revealed with the words “Affirmative, Hassan” printed on it. I miss K9 massively, but I’m glad that his canonical fate is with Sarah Jane Smith’s son, Luke, and the fantastic dog is still beloved by Doctor Who audiences, fictional and real.

Referencing Doctor Who's Biggest Villains

Robyn’s mug also features a Doctor Who reference. Alongside the words “Robyn will be hydrated!” is a cartoon image of a Dalek. It’s a little hard to see which type of Dalek design from Doctor Who is used on the mug, but it seems likely that it’s one of the staple bronze-like Daleks from the show’s modern era. However, this isn’t the only nod to the Daleks in season 15’s fans scene.

Referencing The Last Survivor Of The Cult Of Skaro

There are several items and pieces of Doctor Who merchandise on the shelves behind the fans, but many of them aren’t in focus and are difficult to make out. One thing that can be seen properly, however, is a figurine of an exploded Dalek. Upon closer look, this appears to be Dalek Caan, the last of the Cult of Skaro. Following a run-in with the Tenth Doctor in season 3, Caan escapes using an Emergency Temporal Shift, before facing the Time Lord again in “Journey’s End.” His escape route, however, causes significant damage to his casing.

Referencing The Meep From The 60th Anniversary Special "The Star Beast"

Robyn is also wearing a Doctor Who T-shirt. Her attire is a nod to one of the surprising monsters in Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary specials, the Meep, who causes all manner of chaos in “The Star Beast.” While there are a lot of references to past Doctor Who lore, it’s great to see a nod to a more recent adventure, too. Considering how popular the Meep is because of their cute character design, it makes total sense that the fans also have merchandise related to them.

5 The Third Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver

Referencing One Of The Classic Era's Iconic & Trusty Tools

During the fan scene, Robyn is also holding the Third Doctor’s sonic screwdriver. The origins of the sonic screwdriver in Doctor Who are fascinating, and what initially started as an actual screwdriver later blossomed into one of the most notable accessories of the Time Lord. The Third Doctor’s sonic, however, is the first iteration of the gadget to display wider capabilities other than its original purpose.

4 The Finetime Poster

In the background of the fan scene is a poster with the label Finetime and an image of the Mantrap from season 14’s “Dot and Bubble,” a great Doctor-lite episode of Doctor Who. The Mantrap is a huge slug-like creature created by the Homeworld, which is born from technological sentience and consumes entire populations at a time.

Thankfully, the Mantrap doesn’t exist in the world of the fan scene, but it’s strange that Lizzie, Hassan, and Robyn have this poster, considering the undertones of “Dot and Bubble.”
