returning fan-favorite writer Russell T Davies.

Now, current music composer Akinola confirms that he, too, will be stepping down following Whittaker’s final episode. Akinola took over from revival composer Murray Gold in 2018, and has scored every episode of the current Doctor's new-look era of the show. Fans will wish the musical maestro all the best. Akinola’s departure further adds to the complete overhaul that is coming to the sci-fi series in 2023. It’s possible that previous composer Gold could also Davies and company in reinvigorating the show for the 60th anniversary, but whoever takes up the musical reins remains to be seen. Until then, Akinola has one more adventure due, as Doctor Who returns for a BBC centenary special later this year.
