Warning: SPOILERS for Doom Patrol season 3.

The Doom Patrol season 3 teaser trailer includes a glimpse of Danny the Ambulance, which suggests that the show could be set to introduce the superhero Casey Brinke. The character has a surreal origin story and strange powers, but that makes her a perfect fit for the show. A lot of the groundwork has been laid already and all signs point to Casey Brinke making a season 3 appearance.

Doom Patrol has so far included a version of Grant Morrison’s Danny the Street, who's been updated for the present-day understanding of gender identity and now identifies as genderqueer and uses they/them pronouns. In the comics, after Mr. Nobody destroys Danny the Street, they return as Danny the Brick before going through several iterations and evolutions of power and becoming Danny the World, a safe haven for all, and then spawning Danny the ambulance. The Doom Patrol series provided its own version of Danny’s transformation into their brick state at the hands of Mr. Nobody and has, for the time being, skipped over Danny the World with season 2 showing that Danny will return as a wheeled vehicle that can travel the world with the Dannyzens to spread their message.

Danny The Ambulance Doom Patrol Season 3 Teaser Trailer

Beyond the origins of Danny the Ambulance and Casey Brinke being intertwined, there are further reasons why audiences might expect to see Casey in Doom Patrol season 3. While appearing to be an entirely normal human, Casey exhibits some powers and, in later parts of her story, replaces one of her legs with a cybernetic enhancement. She has the ability to create electric blasts, an ability that she carried from the pages of Danny’s comic book, and when Casey and Danny the Ambulance are together, they gain the ability to drive through time. Given that the season 3 trailer introduces Madame Rouge and the concept of time travel to the show, Casey appearing alongside Danny the Ambulance and providing a time travel solution would make a lot of sense for the series.

A more meta reason why Casey Brinke might appear in the series is that the show has already been drawing on comics from the same writer who created her. Season 2 saw the surreal introduction of Scants, creatures that place bad ideas in your head, which were created as part of a Doom Patrol run written by Gerard Way (also known as the creator of and the front-man for My Chemical Romance). Both Danny the Ambulance and Casey “Space Case” Brinke were originated in Gerard Way runs of the “Doom Patrol” comics, so if the show continues to draw on his storylines, Casey Brinke making her way onto screens in Doom Patrol season 3 seems extremely likely.
