Doctor Doom one of the most powerful villains in the Marvel Universe, but his latest arc seems to challenge that. In the series, Doom is forced to seek assistance from the Avengers due to a threat far beyond his capabilities. The fact that he even requested assistance shows how dangerous this threat is, but what's most surprising is that it has a familiar name.
Despite Doom’s overwhelming power as Emperor, Dormammu is presented as a greater cosmic threat, which is a fascinating turn of events.
While Victor is the next major villain in the MCU, Marvel movie fans are already familiar with the formidable Dormammu from his role as the antagonist of Doctor Strange. In Marvel Comics, it is interesting that the two are going head-to-head now.
Dormammu’s Power Level In "One World Under Doom" Makes It Clear That He Is An All-Time Great Marvel Villain
One World Under Doom #5 – Written By Ryan North; Art By R.B. Silva; Available June 11, 2025 From Marvel Comics
Dormammu has always been one of the most dangerous mystical beings in the Marvel Universe, and in One World Under Doom #5, this is set to be made even clearer, as the interdimensional deity becomes the major antagonist of the crossover. When he arrives to challenge Doom, he is forced to seek help from Earth’s heroes, which should serve as a wake-up call for both Doom and the readers; as teased by Marvel, Doom’s struggle to survive in the face of Dormammu’s attack emphasizes the difference in their respective abilities, making Dormammu’s power undeniable.

Should Doctor Doom fight Doctor Strange in Avengers: Doomsday?
Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange has been confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday. I hope that we get to see him directly fighting Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom for a simple reason. With the Scarlet Witch dead and Loki holding the multiverse together, Strange is the only sorcerer powerful enough to warrant Marvel Studios showing Doctor Doom's magical expertise from the comics. To defeat Strange, Doom would have to show how gifted a sorcerer he is, which would help make him more different from Tony Stark to fans, which is desperately needed after RDJ's casting.
While Dormammu's MCU counterpart appears much more tame, Season 3 of the animated What If...? series suggests that he may have plans to enter the MCU in a much bigger way. In episode 4, fans heard of Kaecilius's plans to retrieve a host body for Dormammu, meaning that the ruler of the dark dimension has the power to posesses and puppeteer others, meaning he could be a potent threat in the future. If the MCU continues to build on this, it could even position Dormammu as the grand string puller behind any major event in the MCU.
Marvel's "One World" Crossover Pits Doom’s Resilience Vs. Dormammu’s Power
A Clash Of Marvel's Top-Tier Villains
Despite the looming power of Dormammu, His willingness to forces with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, despite his pride, proves that he’s still one of the most formidable figures in the Marvel Universe.

One Moment Proves Doctor Doom's Pettiness Can Make Him the MCU's Best Villain Yet
Doctor Doom is the terrible tyrant of Latveria but has also hilariously used his vast monarchical power to pettily mock his rival, Reed Richard.
It will be fascinating to see how the MCU chooses to approach the power scaling of these two iconic villains in future films. While Dormammu undoubtedly outmatches Doctor Doom in of raw strength and cosmic power, Doom's tactical brilliance and unmatched ability to adapt to nearly any situation make him a formidable opponent in his own right. Seeing him align with his enemies to take down anyone is a massive testament to their power, so fans will be on the edge of their seats, when Marvel's spectacular Doctor Doom vs. Dormammu showdown reaches its climax.
