Warning: Spoilers for Blade #6!Dracula's temporary alliance with Blade has unveiled a secret ability that's never been revealed before. Blade doesn't have a more complicated relationship with anyone in the Marvel Universe quite like he does with Dracula. The two have been on opposite sides, and when Blade was the Sheriff of Dracula's Vampire Nation, on the same side. Now, as Blade has to face his deadliest threat, he needs Dracula's help.
The Lord of Vampires offers his help by unleashing his never-before-seen blood zombies in Blade #6 by Bryan Hill, Lee Ferguson, KJ Diaz, and VC's Cory Petit. In an effort to train Blade to become stronger than he is and prepare him for a fight with one of Marvel's biggest threats to emerge in 2023, Dracula pulls out some tricks Blade couldn't prepare for.
Dracula utilizes his unexpected (and, given the nature of them, frankly gross) power to produce zombies made out of blood to bring the best out of Blade. Soon after, he uses what he sees to critique Blade's fighting ability.
Dracula Trains Blade with Blood Zombies
For the entirety of his series, Blade's main antagonist has been the Adana, an ancient evil whom Blade accidentally unleashed onto the world and then accidentally helped make even more powerful. Blade and his allies had a plan to destroy the Adana with the blade of Lucifer, but their plan fails embarrassingly. The Lightbringer weapon falls into the Adana's hands, and she uses it to open the gateway to her own personal, literal Hell. She then plunges the world into a Hell of her own design. Convinced that the only way to defeat the personification of evil is with the guidance of the original personification of evil, Blade is forced to ask Dracula for help.
Blade #6 opens with the first step of Dracula's tests for Blade. The Daywalker is seen in a skirmish with life-sized, plasmic blobs of blood, which Blade seems to decapitate with ease. Except, Dracula is quick to say that despite surviving these unusual creatures, Blade has failed the test. When they sit at a campfire together later that night to discuss Blade's progress so far, the vampire hunter tells the king of vampires that he had no idea that Dracula could create blood zombies, giving a name to those blobs seen earlier. "You didn't ask," Dracula answers quite plainly to his new mentee.
Blade's Frenemy Dracula is a Bloody Mastermind (Literally)
This revelation raises the question of what other abilities are in Dracula's arsenal, while also unveiling Dracula himself as a true master of blood. He is always going to be the king of vampires because being the head honcho of them all comes with the territory of having the name Dracula, but he's done some impressive feats already using blood. For instance, he blood to help Blade tap into his full potential. At this point, there is nothing that Dracula can't do with blood, and it could all help Blade.
