Dragon Age 4 doesn't have a release window yet, but that doesn't stop fans from wondering what the next entry in the saga will offer. Inquisition introduced many crucial elements to Thedas' lore and set the world for the eventual confrontation against the Dread Wolf. Thus, it's expected that the fourth game to revolve around the fight and its key players.
The franchise is famous for leaving every major choice in the hands of its players, but BioWare will need to canonize the most important decisions for Dragon Age 4. After all, veteran players could import their Inquisition world state, but new arrivals to the franchise will need a fresh start.
Hawke's Status
Hawke is the protagonist of Dragon Age II. However, their fate is not final until Inquisition, where the player can choose to leave Hawke behind in the Fade during the quest Here Lies the Abyss.
Leaving Hawke behind would have significant repercussions for Kirkwall and Thedas. The death of the Champion would hit the people hard, although Varric's presence as Viscount of Kirkwall does mitigate some of the consequences. Dragon Age 4 should provide a straight answer about Hawke's fate, especially because having them alive would mean being short of one Grey Warden.
Mages Or Templars
The first major choice players make in Inquisition concerns the mage/templar war. The player can choose to side with either group, leaving the other to their fate under Corypheus. The Inquisition's intervention effectively ends the war and puts one group in a better position than the other following Corypheus' defeat.
The choice could have massive repercussions, especially because Dragon Age 4 will visit the Tevinter Imperium, land of the mages. The state of mages was already precarious, so siding with the Inquisition as free agents could make all the difference. The game could also choose to have the Inquisition siding with the Templars, further sinking the mages into disarray.
Morrigan Having Kieran
It's a little-known Dragon Age fact that Morrigan has a son, Kieran. He is the product of her relationship with a male character from Origins — either a male Warden, Alistair, or Loghain — and was conceived to serve as a vessel for the archdemon Urthamiel's soul. If a male Warden had a relationship with Morrigan, Kieran could also exist, albeit without the demon's soul.
Kieran's existence has significant repercussions for Morrigan's arc. If Alistair is present in Inquisition, he outright declares that Kieran "changed" Morrigan for the better. BioWare needs to canonize his existence because it works better for Morrigan's characterization and journey, especially if she drinks from the Well of Sorrows.
The Warden's Whereabouts
The Warden is the protagonist of Dragon Age: Origins. Depending on the player's choices throughout the game, the Warden can be either dead or alive, married or single, and in Thedas or the mysterious world beyond the Eluvians.
Inquisition avoids giving a straight answer about the Warden's whereabouts, and the default world state reveals they are off on a journey on their own. However, Dragon Age 4 needs to go further and provide a straight answer about the Warden's whereabouts, especially because their help could be useful in the fight against Solas.
Iron Bull's Loyalty (And Survival)
Inquisition fans are well aware of who the Iron Bull is. The Qunari Ben-Hassrath plays a crucial role in the game, becoming one of the Inquisitor's best companions in battle. Bull is also one of the best romances in Dragon Age, cementing him as one of the most beloved characters in the franchise.
Bull's fate depends on the player's choices during his loyalty quest, Demands of the Qun, which involves a potential alliance between the Inquisition and the Qun. If the player sacrifices Bull's Chargers, then he betrays the Inquisitor during the events of Treser. However, if the players save the Chargers, Bull becomes Tal-Vashoth but remains loyal to the Inquisition. BioWare needs to canonize his survival because making him a traitor would be the worst choice.
Orlais' Leadership
The choice at the end of Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts effectively decides the future of Orlais by having the Inquisitor play the Great Game and win. Three possible choices exist, two of which could make things very interesting for the fourth game.
If the player chooses to have Briala controlling Gaspard, the Orlesian elves might deny Solas' call and refuse to his army. However, the public truce ending keeps Celene, Briala, and Gaspard under the Inquisitor's control. Any of these two choices would keep things intriguing in the empire, but BioWare will surely choose the latter to avoid further complications.
The Grey Wardens Working With The Inquisition
One of the most important questions Dragon Age 4 needs to answer concerns the fate of the Orlesian Wardens. The Inquisitor can either exile or have them work with the Inquisition to stop Corypheus and fix the mess they helped create.
Exiling the Wardens is the most powerful choice because it leaves southern Thedas without any protection against a future Blight. However, BioWare will probably have the Wardens working alongside the Inquisition, a sensible choice considering how important the group is for Thedas.
The Inquisitor Drinking From The Well Of Sorrows
The quest What Pride Had Wrought features arguably the most important choice in Dragon Age: Inquisition. Faced with the Well of Sorrows and its knowledge, players must decide who should drink from it, Morrigan or the Inquisitor.
The easiest choice would be Morrigan. She's a major character in the series, and drinking from the Well works for her character arc, especially concerning her relationship with Flemeth. However, having the Inquisitor drink instead is far more interesting. It also complicates the Inquisitor's bond with Solas, the series' de-facto villain. Without the anchor, the Inquisitor needs another gimmick, and the Well is the perfect one.
Leliana As Divine
Players can choose between three possibilities for the new Divine. Vivienne is the worst candidate, and no one should consider her a viable option.
However, Cassandra and Leliana are very real possibilities. Still, Cassandra makes the most sense in the field, and confining her to the Chantry seems like a wasted opportunity. Leliana has her ample web of spies around Thedas, so having her on the Sunburst Throne would hardly impact her influence on Dragon Age 4's events. Leliana makes the most sense as Divine, and BioWare should make it official.
The Inquisition Disbanding
The Treser DLC offers two possibilities for the Inquisition's ultimate fate following the Qunari plot. Players can choose to disband it, thus protecting themselves from Solas' influence, or transition into a peacekeeping organization under Divine Victoria.
However, the peacekeeping solution makes no sense. The Inquisition's purpose is to do what needs to be done at a time when no one else will do it; it's an exception, not a constant presence in Thedas. Disbanding it makes the most sense; Corypheus is dead, and the Inquisition is no longer necessary.
