The EA Play Live showcase this July has BioWare fans excited for potential Dragon Age news, and in particular, updates on the development of Dragon Age 4. Although more information about the game has gradually been revealed since its announcement, it's currently unclear which characters from previous Dragon Age titles will be making a comeback in DA4.
According to BioWare, Dragon Age 4 has been in the works since 2018, and since then progress on the game has been relatively slow. One of the more recent updates on the title revealed that it's been shifted to a single-player only release, contrary to previous announcements that stated it would have a multiplayer game mode. The success of Mass Effect Legendary Edition has drawn many players back to the studio's story-focused RPGs, and Dragon Age 4 now has renewed interest.
Just like E3 2020, EA was absent from this year's expo, meaning that there will be an extra month to wait before any Dragon Age news is likely released at the EA Play Live showcase. This has left plenty of time for speculation. Notably, many wonder which familiar characters will be making a comeback in DA4. Dragon Age: Inquisition saw the return of several companions and even player characters from other releases, and the next game will probably follow suit.
Who Should Return In Dragon Age 4 - Solas
Unlike the other characters listed here, Solas has been confirmed for Dragon Age 4 thanks to his reveal back in a 2020 game trailer. However, at the moment it's uncertain what his exact role will be in the game. From information that's been provided thus far, it seems like he's going to receive lots of focus in DA4, and some have even speculated that he may be the main antagonist.
Who Should Return In Dragon Age 4 - Morrigan
Morrigan was a central companion and romance option in Dragon Age: Origins, and she played a significant role in Dragon Age: Inquisition later on down the line. She's continued to be an important mainstay of the series since her first introduction, and it's doubtful that Dragon Age 4 will launch without at least giving her a brief appearance.
Who Should Return In Dragon Age 4 - Varric
As a fan-favorite companion in both Dragon Age 2 and Dragon Age: Inquisition, it seems that Varric's presence in the next game is already all but confirmed, particularly after he was featured as the narrator of a Dragon Age 4 trailer last year. His appearance would be a welcome addition for returning fans of the series.
Who Should Return In Dragon Age 4 - Leliana
Leliana first appeared in Dragon Age: Origins as a companion and potential romantic interest, and after various other appearances in other games and novels, she was added to Dragon Age: Inquisition as an advisor for the Inquisitor. Given her prominent place in the series, it's highly probable that she will have some sort of role even if she isn't a companion in Dragon Age 4.
Who Should Return In Dragon Age 4 - Dorian
Dorian has been viewed as another highly probable candidate for the release, particularly after Dragon Age 4's setting was confirmed to be Tevinter. As a mage from the Tevinter Imperium, it's possible that he could serve as the player's ally or guide as they navigate the region, and he may even serve as a romance option once again. With everything BioWare has shown thus far, it seems likely that the game will feature many returning companions from previous Dragon Age games.
